First year of reverse?

I think the first year of reverse for the 400ex is 05. Is that correct?
My brother was wondering because was looking at buying an 02 and he thought it had reverse.

yep 05 is the first year.99-04 no reverse

05 was the first year, but it is possible to put an 05 or newer motor w/reverse in an older frame...

I thought so, thanks guys. Ill have to look at that bike, but im pretty sure he said it was mostly stock.

I have a 99 frame and 05 motor, reverse is sweet, even though i didnt mind when i didnt have it.

i have a 1999 also and have a newer motor with reverse .. my motor is a 2007 ...i have the new plastic also .. so it lookst like a newere machine .. but i also have the old plastic and put it on some times just to see what people say when i switch into reverse and they ask ..what year is that lol ... its kinda funny ...
