Is a 400ex still worth buying over a Z400? I like the lower price, but am worried that it is too out dated. I like the Suzuki, except I have heard it has really soft suspension and the frame can develop cracks around the upper shock mounts....please help me make a decision!

aren't they the same price?......i love my EX but if i was going to get somthing new i'd go for the z (i hate to admit it) but you can find really cheap used 400ex's that you can mod out hardcore with that money you saved...........new- z400 used- 400ex

Suzuki went out took the 400EX, changed the plastic and a bunch of stuff and based it on the 400EX. then they just copied the 250EX and changed the plastic and some other stuff. i think they are very unoriginal and cheaters. but...i heard the Z is faster than the EX. because Zuki "perfected" them. that's just what i heard.

WHAT? a 400 is only 4,900????????

Around here they are $5699!

But why would you want a 400 or z400 when u can have this for only $2,000

fred, have you ridden a 400ex, when you ride one you wont care about that extra 1 hp. Just get one you will not regret it. I rode my brothers for about 15 minutes and i know my decision to buy one will not be regretted.:D

I agree...get the 400ex...just because the Z has 1-2hp more doesn't mean the 400ex no good anymore...anyone who thinks that is an idiot :p

Becasue I already have one, so you dont think the 400ex isnt outdated? Yes I have driven a Ex but not a Z, I want to compare both, I ride trails, play race, and jump, just basically have fun, what would ne better, I need something reliable and thats not gunna snap in half in a year.

Z-400 has liquid cooling,,that's the biggest difference between the 2,,don't believe the BS in mags,,it's not that much faster..3 HP or so,,,the one thing the 400ex has over the Z-400............................................. It's reliable and has 4 years of abuse..you can go to a MX track, XC track, TT track, or a damn horse track:huh ,,,you'll see more 400ex's there than any other quad in the history of ATV's...they should change the name of 400ex's to Kevlar, cuz the mofo's are bullet proof..:blah

yeah. i've seen 400EX's at my local track. i haven't seen the guys really do any big jumps cause they say it has power and they aren't used to jumping. i saw a guy on a Z say he needed more power and he could just really good. he overshot the jump i wreck on and landed half way down a hill which is like 80 feet. the guys are scared of the 400EX power and the Z isn't enough. maybe just different skills. Honda's are more reliable cause i heard it doesn't take much to bend a Z's axle.

Like rico said, liquid cooled made the 2 hp difference. I put the bigger oilres and it helped ALOT. Honda is to atv's, like john deere is to big equipment.

if some one said the 400ex is under power to hit a jump, they don't know how to jump

Remaining 02 400exs $4500 new 03 400exs $4900 around here. And that is just what is advertised, go in and talk and you could make those numbers out the door pricing.

The magazine prices are just going by the recommened selling price from the Manufactures. The 400ex is still an awsome machine, really the Z400 has 500RPM higher, liquid cooling, 1cc more, reverse and dual over head cam. I haven't seen a new Z the same price or lower than a new 400ex, and for the differences its not worth it, unless you really want reverse. The Ex will last fovever the Z has not totaly proven itself yet, they only just fixed the axle bending problems on this years models. Ride them both and decide, just rememeber the final decision is up to you.
