View Full Version : esr 310 on a short rod?

Just wondering if any one can refresh my memory, can i run this set up( without the spacer plate)-86 rod,esr 310,86 style piston?

yep. i dont get why they dont make a set up in which you dont have to use the spacer. but YES you can run it the way u said.

They do make a set up so you dont have to run the spacer plate
It is just a biger 87-up style piston, the reason most people run the plate with a long rod is the 86 style piston is lighter and flows air much better it is 4mm shorter (the reason for the spacer plate)and has a CR style cut out in the rear skirt.
The 87 -up piston sucks it dose not flow air all that well and revs slower.

the main most reason for the long rod spacer plate setup using the 86 style piston is due to the short rods rod angle on the larger bores. thus eliminating a tremendous amount of side load on the pistons skirts. not to mention the exceptionally large port of the exhaust ect ect. the 87 and up pistons arent designed very well for it.
