I currently have a 250r axle. I am wanting to return everything back to the 400ex. I bought it like this and don't know why the previous owner did this. Just curious what all will I need to do the swap. I know an axle, hubs, sprocket hub. but not sure about the rear brake caliper holder, or other odds and ends I need. Will I need a new carrier and bearings. TIA

You need it all. It's all different

why would you want to change it all back??? If you want the 400ex rear brake(downgrade), get 400ex brake parts and 250r lock nut. The 250r rear brake is better, dual piston, smaller rotor(more grond clearnace) and stronger. If you want to go back to a 400ex setup, you'll need the axle, hubs, brake hub, lock nut(400ex), bake rotor and end nuts. Seams like alot of money to have the same strength stuff and a weaker brake.

The reason why many did this, was because the 250r brakes are much better(a front conversion was very popular too), it has a smaller rotor(more clearance) and also(nothing to do with the pro/con), the racers changed from a 250r to a 400ex and had 250r parts galore. They wanted to use the parts they already had.
