How to engage revers on a 400ex?

I just purchased a 2005 400EX and was wondering if anyone knows how to engage reverse. I have done it twice now but not sure how I did it. Please let me know.

05 and newer do...

i wish i could help...i haven't had a reverse on a machine for about 7 years now...lol

put it in 1st, turn the knob and push the shifter down.

ya the 05 were the first year and they also look like the 450's i hope someone can help me. It has the knob on the fron right fender

If you stall the machine in reverse you cant restart it until you put it back into first

There is a mod to disable so it will start in reverse, i did mine with this link. After I cut mine I saw where one guy said just to pull the wire out of the loom and tape off instead of cutting.

You dont have to be in first .. you can be in any gear to put in reverse.

Just pull in the clutch, turn the reverse key, and click down twice.. to get it out of reverse just click up on the gear shifter

What you are doing is clicking down from a higher gear, you can be in 5th, then turn the knob and click down 6 times and it will go into reverse,
