Noob t the 400ex

Ok, I'm a total newbie to the 400ex, or any 4 wheeler for that matter. I raced/rode motocross for 13 years until a bad crash, so after 2 1/2 years I bought my 400. So I'll probably asking some questions. My 400 is stock except for renthal bars, nerf bars, clutch lever and perch, HFM slip on and K&N filter. Do I need extended arms to make the 450 shocks work well? If so, I see arms that say 3+1 and stuff like that, what does this mean? Also if I extend the front arms do I need to get a wider axle? If so how much? I will be riding mostly trails, with some light mx use. Any help or tips are greatly appreciated.:D

you do not need extended a-arms for the 450 shocks to work well, they work fine on stock a-arms. +3 +1 means they are three inches wider than stock per arm and an inch forward. i would just be careful when widening that you do not exceed the width of your local trails. mine are 50 inches so the plus three's wouldnt work.

if you dont get extended aarms itll raise the stock height a little.it may also be a little stiff.id go with some +2s if you can.and you dont need an extended axle.the handling will still be improved with just the aarms but if youve got the money id an axle too.

ok, I have around $400 to spend. Should I go with arms or 450 shocks? Also where can I get graphics for an 04 400ex?

i dont see a point in throwing graphics on. all they are for is looks. your roll it once and there scuffed. go with performance parts before looks.

aarms are gonna lower your stock height quite a bit without shocks and make them alot softer.get the shocks then eventually when you get enough money get the aarms.

i would go w/ the 450r shocks first. ct racing has nice graphics kits.

ct still makes graphics for 99-04 ex's, look awesome and not a bad price either....im in the process of gettin 450 shocks also, so thanx for the Q's n A's

EBAY is your friend, you can get Aarms and 450 r shocks for around 400 if you look hard enough, get some used 450r shocks for about 170 dollars.
