The cat is a touch out of focus

Some fill flash would have helped a ton:)

Yep you can use your pop up. Anytime you see the sun or brightest part of the light behind or over the shoulder, either reposition the subject or use fill flash to fill in teh shaded and shadowed area

Just keep practicing and asking questions. And keep a thick skin when you ask for help. With photography, you can have a 100% technically perfect shot and no one like it:p mainly though, do what makes you happy, afterall, its your vision your sharing with us!!

I will be keeping an eye on ya as you get used to the D80!

If I were going to shoot birds in a tree. what would I meter off of to get the proper exposure? I would assume you would meter off of the bird right? Or could u meter off the sky and that would work for anything you shoot outside that day as long as the light stays the same?

For starters

ISO 400

Aperature Priority at about 5.6

Use center weighted metering

Spot Focus

Fill flash

- 1/3 exposure

Check the LCD and make sure you dont blow out the highlights or under expose the image. Use the exposure compensation button to tweak what you see before a bird lands and you should have some decent results

I'll give that a shot. The light around here has been horrible; hardly any sun.
