second phone call, apparently he fell victim to "bloat" which from what i understand is basically gas building up in his stomach and it stretches to multiple times its normal size damaging the organs around it, when they got him to the vet this morning he was cold to the touch and almost unresponsive.

Sorry for your loss, dogs in my house are like people. Bloat happens alot with larger dogs especially if they eat fast. Some reason feeding them on an elevated surface helps with prevention. I like the ridge backs they are pretty cool, we have great dane.

Sucks man, very common killer of dogs especially in larger breeds. Often cause by rapid eating followed by physical activity (build up of air in the stomach), and knowing the ridgeback they love to run that could have been what happened.:(

Sorry to hear that bro.. This thread reminds me of back in July last year when I had to put my buddy down of old age. Being in the room I just went into tears.

It's like killin a best friend.

sorry to hear that.

i know how it feels. we had to lay my dog down a few days ago. his back was hurting him real bad, combination from being hit when he was a pup and arthritis.
