A friend of myne has a stock 400 and is thinking of running 50/50 race fuel mixture. Is this goin to hurt or help anything or is he just wasting his money? Thanks for any help.

^--yes it does smell good.:D ..but on a stock machine complete waste of money. I was just at my local dealer and they wanted (on sale) VP12 for $34 for a jug, I think it was around 5 gallons.

Yeah - it's hellaciously expensive........I run av-gas now, cuz I have hookups at the airport......I like race gas better, but with my bigbore, at least it's better than pump gas and I won't go broke just gassing up my quad!:)

thanks for all the responses guys but basically all i'm getting at is that the race fuel isn't too much for his stock parts to handle right? He won't blow anything in his motor because of this? What if we are going on long rides in the dune and our quads are getting hot from drag racing for long periods of time? Will the race fuel help to keep them cooler?

It won't keep a stock engine cooler, just the opposite. Race gas is higher octain for higher compression engines to stop detonation. Waste of money in a stoke engine. Premium pump gas works best up to about an 11 to 1 compression ratio. Read your owners manual.

if 11:1 comp. is as far as u would wanna go on pump gas, (93 oct), then if i got an 11:1 416 piston wit xr gasket, would i be safer runnin like a mix of 2/3 pump 1/3 race gas, or somthin between that and 50:50???? because i dont wanna risk detonation (sp)

well technically desert rat if you read the owners manual you wouls see that it recomends a higher octaine than i can get from premium gas at any gas station at least here in california. Would some kind of octaine boost help?

Racing fuel actually does make the motor run cooler. It has lead in it that acts as a extra lubricant. Extra lube means less friction which equals lower running temps. For a stock motor its just a waste of money though.

so some say it will make it run cooler but others say it wont or it will run hotter who is right? Anyone else have any oppinions?

If you have the proper compression than you will run cooler with race gas.

If you don't have enought compression the gas won't burn completely and then will slowly burn in the cylinder (.. or something like that:huh) .. thats why you hear about race gas burning a hole in the top of a piston.

My boyfriend is a tech, and he taught me about the leaded gas burning cooler - and he also said that in a stock engine, race gas won't help or hurt enough to make a difference. My 440 now requires race gas - or av gas - to run properly and keep my engine in good shape. If I had a 416 I would probably run a mix of race/regular gas.......but that's just me. There is always a variety of opinions on this topic, probably because there really is no definate answer - more personal preference than anything.

since its leaded it makes it run ALITTLE cooler but its pretty much a waste on a stock bike
