I have this 400ex apart and the rod journal is bad and the piston is shot and the cylinder is messed up a little bit but may be usable. can i bore my 87mm sleeve to a 88mm to clean it up because I want to keep my HD head studs.
next, I want to know if i have to press the rod apart or back together.
if the bad spot in the cylinder is below the ring mark will it hurt anything?
thanks guys
Dan

You can bore to a 88 on the stock sleeve. If that isnt enough then it can be resleeved and you could go back to a 87mm. To fix the rod you either have to get a new crank/rod assembly or get an aftermarket rod and have it replaced by a machine shop.

do you know of anyone that has a crank/rod assembly? I don't have anyone around here that can do it. I don't want to have to send it off unless I HAVE TO.
thanks

Hot rods makes one for around $200 or you can get a oem but they cost alot more.
