if you're looking for a race-ready quad:

Ds450 x mx
Ds450 x xc
KTM 450/505 sx (not sure on reliability)
KTM 450/525 xc
Yfz450r(not sure on reliability)

all are excellent quads.

KTM 450/505 sx- Ktm makes excellent bikes, and now they make awsome quads

Kxf450-If your buget is tight (not so sure on race readyness)

both are badass quads, its all about how big/small your buget is

ktm 450 mx
suzuki ltr450

As far as being completely race ready, i'd say the KTM's. However all the 450's are good... Best bet is to test ride em and make your pick. Everyone is gonna give you a different answer. And it depends on how much money you wanna drop.

thanks, im not looking to spend a lot like the ktm costs. im kindof debating between an ltr and the ds 450 mx but not sure which would be the way to go

Ds hands down. The 09's clutch is fixed, which was the main issue on the 08. The handling on these things is insane.

Ive been building race quads for years dating back to the 250R days.I built a few of those,a hybrid,a Honda 450R desert quad, and a full mx yfz(first generation).I recently sold the race YFZ and a pretty stock LTR. I got the chance to demo the new YFZ-R @ Glen Helen during the 1st round of the ITP quadcross, simply amazing!!! I went out and purchased one the next day.Ive had it at the track four times now and im turning faster lap times than my old, fully built YFZ! I have so much room to move around, the chassis design, the extra upsweep in the front end, narrow tank section at the knees, smoothe power and light thumb all contribute to a effortless ride. The only thing ive done to it is a pipe and mx wheels/tires(from my old YFZ).Yes the suspension is that good, unlike the LTR the YFZ-R is long travel.I will be having my shocks revalved/resprung by P.E.P but thats $600-800 compared to $2,000.Bottom line is,this thing is second to only the KTM as far as being ready for the track. You could make a case for the Can-am,but honestly(no offense Can-am guys)Please ride one and you will see.I grew up a Honda guy but now I go for the most sensible product out there.http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/yfz450r_micro/home.aspx

As far as Can-am is conserned,I dont dislike them.I live in So.Cal and ride the local tracks here which are flooded with pro riders and am fortunate enough to talk to alot of them regarding these machines. They usually give honest opinions even if its about the one they are riding.I havent been impressed by the feedback on the Can-am.Its no slouch by any means,I just feel there are far too many choices out there.I would rather spend my hard earned money on a proven machine.

I run a full blown 2005 Lonestar 250R. Ive riiden everything and the only one that comes close is the new YZ450. Hands down the best new quad you can buy! The Can Ams are down on power and the KTM's are too much.

i just dont want to make the mistake of buying the yamaha bc its the first year model. i did that in 06 with the ltr and had tons of tranny problems

jon67,technically the new YFZ-R is not a first year.Yamaha took a proven winner in the YFZ and made it alot better! This new machine has been in the works for years. They actually used the 700 Raptor as a testing platform for the EFI and hybrid steel/aluminum chassis. That thing has been raced in the open class,Baja and other races with no problems, bulletproof.I wouldnt worry about a thing:D

I would watch out on the new Yamahas. At least for half a year or a year. I have heard of a lot of Pros blowing the motors. I dont have nothing against them just problems with first year machines and this is a whole new quad. Looks like it could be a winner though in my book, just letting you know what I know

Blown motors?Im around Dustin Nelson often and know some GYTR insiders who work with Pat Brown and Bill Ballance,I havent heard of this.State facts....
