which way do I turn the exhaust valve knob to get which type of performance changes????

Joe, that knob adjusts the tension on the spring for the powervalve. I was always told to leave it alone unless there's a problem with it. I can't remember right now but I think the valve actuates at like 6300 RPM for the 1987 model but don't quote me on that. At any rate, in order to adjust it correctly you've got to be able to tell what RPM the engine is at and watch the powervalve through the sight-glass on the right hand side. I'm not sure how detailed the Clymer's manual gets with the powervalve though.

There's not a whole lot of performance gains to be had by adjusting the powervalve. I was always told you risk decreasing the performance if you mess with the spring tension on the valve. Do a search for "Suzuki Quadracer" and look for a geocities website run by a guy by the name of Kiwi-Craig from New Zealand. Shoot him an email and he should be able to answer your questions.
