Me and dad are going to get them tomorrow.

One is a bone stock, beat to hell '86 250r.

The other is either a Rancher or a Recon, he didn't know which.

I'll be sure and post pictures of them tomorrow.

We're going to fix up the ute and probably sell it, and we have an old CR500 engine that will most likely find a new home.

So if anyone need a 250r engine, PM ME!:D

theirs a long long long history of problems with putting cr250/cr500 motors in a 250r chassis, IIRC its because the dirtbike motors are un-counterbalanced or something along those lines...long story short, it will rattle your arms off your body.

Sick deal though, post up some pics man.

If done right it WILL work, the guy who builds my motor had one years back.. Took a polaris scrambler 400 topend and put it on a 250r bottom end with some home brewed motor mounts that were trick to say the least!. Even with those there was vibrations but it wasn't anything that would shake your eyes out of your head. The actual cr500 motor isn't bad either, It can be done as well I've often thought about it if I had another R to do it with. Even a 400ex wouldn't be a bad choice. You just have to REALLY think about it, some shade tree redneck throwing it in there as fast as possible isn't the best. lol

If it gets bad enough fill the bars with lead pellets, old school biker trick that works, just don't expect them to be light lol..:)

It will turn your frame into a tuning fork. At the very least gusset that frame in every way possible.

There it be!:)

A gusset kit has been ordered from BARE performance, and we will more than likely find a way to rubber mount the engine, along with fat bars and spider grips.

Dad wants to turn it into a drag only quad, I wanna build an MX quad and just sell the 400ex...

Choices, choices, choices...:chinese:

better get every single anti-vibe part you can. Even rubber mounting that CR500 isnt going to help that much. You will not be able to ride it long but hey if you want to do it, go ahead

make sure if you do mount it with rubber mounts, to put rubber mounts at ALL mounts. If you just put rubber mounts in the front then the other mounts will break.

I remember reading in a mag years ago that if you port and tune the motor correctly, rubber mount the engine, and gusset accordingly the chassis will last. I think it was a Laeger build. Also, I know you dont have it but a KX500 motor is counterbalanced. Thanx.

Why not just build it into a nice 250R? There are plenty of big bore options these days.

Something to check out, is there is a frame on ebay already modded for a CR500 motor.

You need to make the frame cradle the engine by adding additional braces. Take a look at a Roll Design frame and use a similar set up, add an aidditonal vertical rail. Or find pics of the actual Laeger's CR500. There were about 3 or 4 made.

The 250 engine has good compression, so we're going to monkey with it and try to make it run.

Whatever we do is going to be a slow process.

Me being 16, working 2 jobs and going to school takes away alot of my free time. And the little bit I have is divided between my truck, band and family.

My truck also gets 80% of my money, in gas:eek2:

So, its gonna be a slow build. And I have no shame in buying used parts. If I start to really like the 250r and it starts to come along nicely then my 400ex will find itself a new home.

BTW- does anyone know if the stock rear shock on a 250r will fit a '02 400ex? or vice-versa?

$75 for it and a recon with 1 tire.

Nothing is really wrong with the recon.. it just needs to be gone over, cleaned and have 3 more tires and wheels put on it.

The guy wanted them hauled off and I had done some yard work for him. I told him if I could have the 250r we could call it even, and he told me I had to take them both.

I came back half an hour later with the trailer!

I think we're gonna try to get it running and use it, but if the plan changes, I'll let you know before anyone else?
