Sounds like you need a 400ex or Z400.

It all depends on one thing,
which forums you post the question in.
I'm guessing most guys in here are going to vote for the trx450r.

^^^ was wondering the same thing, but ill throw my opinion in on it and say go with a 450r, but thats because ive seen yamaha, suzukis, kawis broke down more then a honda, the reliablity is unbelievable,

hondas and yamahas both are very reliable in stock form. it seems as though however, yamahas can take the power once you start building them. hondas IMO can with proper care. like i said though they are both very reliable in stock form.:)

my experience is 400ex's are bulletproof..... trx450r's are great bikes maintenance wise if they are stock.... so buy a decent modded 400ex... or a stock 450r.... ...

and you really thought anybody in this section of forum would recommend anything other than a honda???? come on now!!!

seriously though...... 400ex will be your best bet.

the 400ex is an underrated bike.. i had 2 of them, before i manned up and bought a 450. and i still have a 400. it is a real nasty bike if you set it up right, and no it doesnt mean dumping alot of money into it.... if its your first bike, get the 400. get comfortable with the riding and get experience and get wrenching/maintenance skills first.. do not buy a 450 for your first quad.

i agree dont get a 450 if you dont have much mechanical skill or you'll be dumping money in it for either regular maintence or repairs for not maintaining it. i have both 400ex and 450r and the 400ex is easier to ride and of course take care of it.

Just buy what ever you feel most comfortable on. Everyones gonna tell you something different but what really matters is how You feel on a certain bike.

yeah everyone has different taste. Personally I love the 400ex I can putt around or race. Some days I wish i was on a 450 just to see how bad people would get beat. Not trying to brag here but i'm hanging or beating a lot of faster quads with a 400ex that has bolt ons pushing the quad as far as it will go. But the times when I putt around or "play" ride is when I would miss the 400ex. If you race I recomend the 450. If you trail ride get a 400.
