I searched a few early post, and found a few guy's made their own plates to relocate to stuff. At some point someone added the 300ex cover that goes over the handlebars completely instead of the original small 250x cover. I think i will just make my own plate.

I am prety sure if you disconet the the two ignition wires on a 250x not 250ex the bike will start. In the case of a 300ex you have to plug the two wires in together to start the bike with out a key. On a 250x you can wire a teather to the ignition wires and use it as a key. You can not do the same thing on a 300ex because the wireing is not the same. Just disconect the wires and try starting it. If it runs, tape up the ends of the wires and use the stop, run, stop switch to kill the engine.

I am not 100% on a 250X but on a 300 all you have to do is unplug the ignition switch and plug the two wires into each other.
