I have a 2003 400ex that will not even turn over by pressing the starter switch. I can jump it off at the solenoide and it will turn over but it still will not start. It did this before winter and i have not had time to work on it. I got on it one day to ride it and it started fine. Then I waited for it to warm up it died while it was idleing and has not started since. When you try to start it the neutral light dims and thats all I get. Im thinking the CDI box may be bad any help would be greatly appreciated. I also checked the fuse. Also was wondering if it could be the battery. I even tried a jump box the other day and still would not start.
Thanks Eric

have you tried forcing it to run by push starting it?

When you turn the key to the ON position while its off does the light come on? Because it might be your battery or the ground wire is fried off.

Sounds like you may have a dead short. Start chasing wires, looking for anything abnormal and any wires that have bare spots and could be grounding out.

Check your fuse (1 is a spare)

Double check all electrical connections

Same problem just happened to me and it was a dead battery. One day the battery just stopped working...probably shorted out or something

the battery on my 400 is dead, the light will still come on, but just not enough juice to turn the starter! try that first!
