I going to make my ex a 416 and I am going to use a 400xr head gasket. I am wondering do I have to trim the fire ring on the gasket to fit the bigger bore on the cyl?

I was talking about the gasket ring that seals the cyl. bore to the head. I just thought that since the bore on the cyl. is bigger maybe the gasket should be cut bigger too. But I guess not. thanks

I know Wiseco make a paticular head gasket for 87-88mm pistons so I think you may need to by and XR gasket for a .80 overbore, otherwise you fire ring will be exposed to combustion.

No ,I'm saying you don't have to. And if you do a search you will see others say you don't have to.

We have different bore sizes and thickness of 400ex gaskets custom cut for us and in stock all the time.

I used a stock gasket from cometic when I did my 416. It has ran fine for six months. There are other posts around too that explain this. Steve
