Well i still cant make up my mind on what kind of truck to buy ive looked at a few already and i already know i cant afford diesel even tho id love to get one, ive been looken at the f150's and 250's with the 5.4 in em and i like those trucks alot, and the dodge 2500 with the hemi but ive heardthey r just killer on gas, but the f250 is really nice though with the 5.4 but not sure if the motor is powerful enough for the frame of the truck.

buy a 99-02ish 24v cummins...you can pick them up with about 100k at around 14kish...depending if they're modded or not

I have the 5.4 in an 04 f150, not a bad motor, but not to great on gas. My father in law has a 3/4 chevy with the the 6.0 ... he gets the same gas mileage as i do and can tow more. I would go with a 3/4 if i were you, as you can tow more in the future if you need

Im not brand bias i have 2 fords, but im not a fan of the 5.4 triton motor, seems gutless in a f150 let alone a f250. I would go with a hemi or a chevy if your getting a gas truck.

that would be high miles for a gas truck.

witth that mottor, and that kind of milage, those motors are barely broke in. You can get 300 to 400k miles out of one of those engines..

That 5.4 triton is a joke of a motor. But it is better than a hemi. They just make me laugh. So basically if you are considering ford or dodge, get a ford. The dodges suck even more than fords do. If you want something decent, go with chevy or even toyota. Chevy's 5.3 and 6.0 both rip, and so do toyota engines.

I couldn't agree more I have numerous posts about how garbage they are. Bad head design that hold water in the plugs that are inboard. Ford charges 4-6 of labor to change them...it will take you a lot longer because you have to remove the fuel rail and all the fuel injectors to get to them. When that fuel rail comes off so do the o-rings for the injectors down the razor crevasse called the "intake manifold.
On top of AAAAAAaaaaall that the plugs sometimes shoot themselves out of the heads because the thread depth is too shallow. To fix that little non-recall item costs over $1000.

Each spark plug has it's own coil...which is a good idea...it's just that they include the boot which inevitably tears when you remove it. The Coil On Plug, or COP is $55 a pop and short out when there's water in the spark plug hole. When this happened to me it happened 4 friggin times on the #4 cyl which is under the fire wall. To get to that you need 2 feet if extensions on a 1/2" drive with a 1/4" reduction swivel and a 7mm socket at the end. Of course you have to remove the fuel rail to get to all that.

It was almost at 100,000 miles.

I would go for a 5.3 GM truck (GMC/Chevy). You get the same or more power and a MUCH better engine design, and it's been my experience that you get a much more reliable engine.

Everything that I have mentioned is at the Ford Truck Forums check it out for yourself.

My experience is with half ton trucks and I cannot speak for or against Fords 3/4 ton other than the obvious 6.4 powerstrokes issues that have been reported.

i would imagine with his price range his running into the 7.3s 6.0s and the 7.3 is a GREAT motor, 6.0 is a good motor also but watch the injectors, turbo, and head studs.

The newer 7.3 powerstrokes are very good. My dad has a 2002 dually 7.3, plenty of power great all around truck.

I worked in the Oil patch for a while and have driven pretty well everything there is for trucks, and i have t say my favorite truck on the road to drive is the titan, hence i went out and bought one, and i love it, tons of power, awsome pulling power, comfortable ride, and (i know i'm gunna get ripped on for this) you get the reliability of an import

ok the f-250 is a friggin beast it is not fast by any means but ill will drag a house down the road

I have a '93 F150 Flareside with a 351 motor in it. It will haul plenty. I go for the older trucks, I guess I'm not a big fan of how most newer trucks look.

It's nice to drive but I must say I hardly use low/1st. I used to never use it when I had H/T's on it when i first bought it, and now that I put the BFG's on it 1st is handy on a grade.

Only time I have used low is to pull a city trash truck out of a median when the idiot tried to make a you turn and backed into 3 feet of snow/mud! Gotta' love the look on people's faces as all 4 are spinnin' and smokin' pullin some huge *** trash truck!
