The specific K&N cleaner always works great for me. I think dishsoap deteriorates filters after a while.

I have done this in a pinch.

1)warm water in sink with dish soap
2)swich around to get dirt dislodged
3)rinse water through filter ( back to front)
4)let completely dry
5) re oil filter

Or
1) Get access to the filter
2) Remove filter
3) Look at filter
4) Toss filter in the trash.

Problem solved...get a foam filter...lol...

The first i have done personally and it worked...the bottom i copied from someone else.

I have used simple green for years and it seems to work better than K&N cleaner

How about a clean filter with just SOME sort of light wt. oil,...
not necessarily K&N oil, but at the same time, not 50 wt. either.

Now think,....
might there be SOME sort of oil like that, anywhere around the house?
Maybe some wd-40 ?, maybe some johnson & johnson baby oil ?, maybe some spray-on Pam ?, cooking oil ?, olive oil?

or is it more of a question like,...
If I go fishing, would it be better to have a hook with no bait,
or just tie the worm to the line?

come on bud, you can do better than that.

I just bought the K&N recharge kit, it was cheap and it comes with the proper cleaner and oil. just make sure and run normal pressure water form the inside of the filter out.

I think im going to switch to a uni though i have heard to many bad things about the k&n

CRX,
Clean your filter, and lightly spray a little WD, or Pam on it. just dont over-do it.
you'll be fine till you can go to the local auto parts store for a K&N recharge kit.

Recharge kits are cheap. My filter comes out looking brand new afterwards.

I get the large cans of filter oil for under $8 at my motorcycle shop your best be would be to do it the right way instead of doing any harm to your bike
