What do you guys think about 12:5 to 1 with 93 octane?

that is usually the highest you can go on pump fuel, so you will be ok.

12.5:1 will need high octane fuel. probably about 110 octane. sunoco has CAM2 which is 110 octane if you can find it.

110? stock 06 bikes are 12:1 they run pump! 12.5:1 is the max you can safely run PUMP gas.

I notice you are from California.Do you guys have 93 octane readily available at the pumps? Here in New Jersey we have 93 octane all over.I had heard that some areas have only 91 octane.
If anybody is able to run 91 octane at 12:5 to 1 that would be great news for me because then I could push it further with 93.

i have never seen 93 here in california. We have too many ghey laws and it probly doesnt comply with one or something. We just have 91

So you are able to run 91 octane with 12:5 to 1 and it is fine.Well maybe I will be okay pushing it to 13 to 1 with 93 octane.Very interesting!
We actually had Sunoco 94 octane at the pumps for years until last year.We have always had 93 ever since I can remember.
Thanks alot for the input.
Ride hard!

Just bought a 09 yfz450r.Going to do the mods right away.I'am on the list for a new DASA full system and a Dyna jet commander. Was told about a month before they are ready.
K&N filter and outerwear.Want to get a new piston or maybe shave the head to bump up the compression from 11:6 to 12:5 to 1.Will do port work done at the same time.No new cams out on the market yet from Hot cams so will have to wait for them.
Bought a new set of beadlock Hiper Tech 3 wheels and putting 20's front and 18's on the rear.ITP Holeshots and will be ready to see what this new r will do.
Need the commander for this new fuel injection setup so will see how that works out also.
Thanks again for the input.

oh cool! that should be a pretty good setup! and with that bike, you will be able to do 12.5:1 on pump. I was worried that you had a 400ex or something because those wont do that and i didnt want to be giving misinformation! lol

stock 04 and up crf450 bikes run a 12.5 to 1 piston and Honda recommends 93 pump gas. you also have to take in account for altitude, the higher the altitude the lower the octane needed. i am not talking about several points like 93 to 91.

all the national motors i build are at least 13.75 to 1, with many running 15 to 1. that require a min of 112 motor octane. the problem with buying race fuel at a pump, how long has it been in the tank?, and what octane is now? i have seen pistons split from spark knock (low octane) here in Georgia we range from a few hundred feet to 4000 ft above sea level, and i am sure that California is much higher than Georgia. (i would not be afraid of 91 octane if i lived in ca.)

I'am at sea level here in N J so I should be real good with 12:5 to 1 on 93.So you think 13 would be pushing it?
Thanks for the input!

heat will be your undoing, it will lead to pre detonation. as long as you don't shave the head or cylinder, i would say a mixture of 93 and 100 octane (50/50). you have to be careful with race fuel, if left in a open (vented) can or tank it looses octane. and no aviation fuel, its for high altitude. 12.5 to 1 will run just fine on 93 at sea level. most people believe octane makes hp, not so, oxygen makes hp. the higher the octane level the higher the compression you can run with out predetonation. that why all the pros run oxygenated fuel (about 2 hp just from the fuel), the higher oxygen content in the fuel makes more power.

hope this helps

It helps a bunch. Thanks a lot.I will mix 93 with 100 octane 50/50 and should be good.Play it on the safe side.

There are not many places up north here in Wisconsin with 93 that I have found. I have mostly stations with 91. It would be nice to have alot of 93 stations. steve
