Which is the best for reliablility?
How good does the stock suspention work on them?
Are ltr450 a arms and shocks tradable with the z400 and trx450 with the 400ex?
Im looking for that reliable quad I can go out in any weather or condition and fire it right up?
Which handles the best?
What do you recommend for my riding I go to the track every once in a while and ride alot of wheelies and trails?
I know my maintenence for a quad?
Which is lighter?
Whats a better all around quad?
What the hp on both quads?
Whats speed wise (top speed)
POST PICS if you have either quad with a 450 front end please.

thanks trx400 rider it will be well kept so prolly go with the 400ex but Im really like the z400 if the a arms and shocks of the ltr450 are interchangable that would be great and the rear axle off one then I got and alright quad but liquid cooled sounds good too .thanks for the advise.

well i dont know about the ltr shocks to the Z but the 450r shocks can go on the trx 400 and the 450r carb upgrade to the 400ex is amazing

the trx400ex is a great bike, but as far as technology goes, the z400 has it spanked. the z has a much stronger motor, comes stock with reservoir shocks, has reverse and is much more updated than the 400. Now remember, Im a honda guy! just saying from experience. really, both bikes are awesome.

thanks for the help guys!
Arent ltr450 a arms +2 stock?
Im looking towards a z400 right now as the looks of it.
Does anyone know if the ltr450 a arms and shocks are interchangable thats really the deciding factor plus liquid cooled.

id get a z if i were you as long as its not the fist couple years they came out.(they had problems with frames craking) the z is liquid cooled the ex is fan cooled and the newer ones have better shocks than the ex.the z is also a little bit faster than the ex stock. As for reliability the ex is pretty much bullet proof although i havent heard of any major engine problems of the z.

im not sure about the aarms but im pretty sure the 450r shocks work on the z cause my friends got an older z and as far as i can tell we have the same front shocks.iknow the 450r/yfz shocks work on the ex for sure.

for sure go get a z400, i love honda's but the z has better shocks, seat, looks, power water cooled and reverse!! i had one for 2 years before i got my trx450r, they are awesome all around bike a ton of fun in whatever your doing dirt, sand, mud, snow great trail bike just a great bike, with a few simple mods they will keep up with just about anything easy to wheelie and fast.

I owned an 05 z400 and it was a great bike. One thing about the Z is to make sure the valves are in spec when you buy it because the stock valves are pretty weak. I would suggest getting kibble whites or ferra vavles if you do get one. other that that it was an awesome bike and the suspension is pretty good for stock.

I know that the ltr shocks and arms are not interchangable but 450r shocks bolt up but are practically the same as the 05 and up stockers. hope that helps.

heres a pic before i sold it:

I have owned both and the Z is hands down a better all around quad. I know the 450r shocks will fit on both quads, but if you get an 05 or up Z the shocks are not bad(for stock) and the thing is they are fully adjustable. I would just send them out and get them revalved/resprung to your weight and riding style.

Well I own a 02 400ex which I love. Im doing a rebuild on my friends 05 z400 decided to do it after the motor blew. Its now a 434 and has some zip to it. since I did most the work on it I thought it was only fair to take it on a little ride. When im on it i dont feel as relaxed as my ex(i feel like i sit up higher). It does ride nice on the trail better than my ex but it does have reservoir shocks. When I was riding it I forgot about reverse on it. Ive gone 3 years with out reverse on my ex and never once complained about not having it(sport bikes are easy to whip around anyway). Yes the z400 is liquid cooled which is nice if you like to go in first gear all day long. At higher rpms it keeps the motor a bit cooler than air cooled but liquid cooled to me thats just one more thing to keep a eye on. Both of them have a great market for add ons. I do regular maintenance and my ex and hasnt let me down yet(knock on wood). I went with the ex because well they are bullet proof, they were good for trail people like me and I liked the body style of it(I prefer it over the new style). To sum everything up both quads are great. no matter what you get as long as you do the regular maintenance on them it will keep going for a long time.

Right after I first got it.

i have a 2001 400ex for my girlfriend to ride and a 07 dvx400 for me. the 400 has a white brothers mxr(or something like that) exhaust and a air filter. i bought my dvx brand new last september and it is stock besides some razr tires and nerf bars for now. i like my dvx better. the ex sits you lower in the seat but i like the punch and go of the dvx. the suspension is alot better on the dvx also. since i like to ride tight woods the liquid cooling is nice. these are probally the two most durable quads built.

I hjave an o3Z,I have broken the frame twice,Not one bit happy with frame.I have also had to replace 1 lower arm(Ball joint) .All upper and lower aarm bearings(Mud). And the timing chain.I still love it,A little under powered to run with a 450 but getum where they cant use all that power and it wil suprise you. the 03z is known for weak frames. they changed the supplier for 04 and went with better material. if you ride mx it needs a gusset kit anyways. how did you break the frame?

i've owned the ex & rode a lot of z and the z is a much better ride. it's faster stock, liquid cooled, and looked better. if you're buying new, def get the z400, fuel injection.
