Ok, im going to repaint my car and I need to know what products I need to get. Im using all HOK products. So far I know I need a reducer (there is 4different ones), base coat paint, sealer (dont know which one to get), and the clear. Thats all the products that I know of that I need besides the sand paper. If I need anymore please let me know so I can start throwing some prices together of how much this will cost.

Now here is where my questions come in if someone could point me out to this:

-- Which reducer out of these would I need and how many quarts to get:

-- This is the base coat im going with so how many quarts would I need of this:

-- Which clear should I get and how much of it do I need:

-- Which sealer to get and how much of it do I need:

Thats all I know of that I need for the paint part. Now I have a question about the sanding part. Ive heard to just scuff the car with light sanding from others, but what grit sand paper to use? How far down should I sand? Do I really just need to scuff the clear coat then go back and spray the sealer over that?

Im completely new to paint and since my car needs another paint job im going to tackle it myself and see how it comes out. Of course im going to have someone that knows how to paint a vehicle with me but ill be doing most of the work. Any help is appreciated.

Also ill add that I want the car to be a deep shade of blue, almost black looking at times if that makes a difference or not

first of all this isnt an easy job just anyone cant do it takes alot of work and time. u should have a paint booth to start out (down draft) or u could use a garage as a (cross draft) u will have to have it well ventalated search for some ideas on ways you can do it

painting wise your gonna need atleast a gallon of paint, reducer, clear and hardner depending on the body of the car dents etc u will need primer if so, you wont have to use sealer on the car depnding the color it is now and how much difference in the color u want to paint it. best way to determine the color of sealer is take a black and white pic of the car on ur cell phone and theres your sealer color thats wierd but thats how it works. if you dont have any dents etc u wont have to seal it but if its got alot of body work to be done after u fix them then seal it off, if u dont have basic knowledge about painting i wouldnt try it honestly paints are high and too high to be riskin it lookin like crap

reducers depend on ur temps outside and everything if its cold get a fast or medium reducer if its hott outside like 80+ get a slow reducer

sanding wise if the body dosent need any repairs then go over it with a DA 520 grit dont sand it down to bare metal just over the clear coat you can also use a scotch brite pad to go over it just to take down the clear. get some wax/greese remover and pre clean it b4 u start spraying the paints

honestly matrix and PPG are good paints to use also you might consider lookin into those also

idk what ur using for air supply or spray guns but i prefer using a gravity feed gun and if u use a home compressor ull need to buy water traps and filter to keep water out of the gun and gettin into ur paint job. get u a good respirator and clean air system so u dont die from the breathing in of these chems.

if you have some more ?'s PM me or something ill try to help you as much as i can im not a pro but i went to tech college for 2 yrs for collision repair theres alot of work in this process takes alot of time and patients

Don't forget about wet sanding and buffing after you get done with the paint to smooth out the waves in the paint.
