has any body ever moved the battery behind the airbox or in front of the motor similar to a 450r or an lt-r? looking to move the battery from off the side. thought is that putting in down low in front of the motor will bring the center of gravity down a hair.

I did it back in the 90's . A simple aluminum plate with a 4 sided box fabbed up . Worked fine and even used a much bigger battery for the 406 super stroker.

Back in the 90's before the 400ex all we had was the crappy 300ex to work with . I started with a heavily ported 352 and lectron carb. Had pretty good power . I made the mistake of using a rev box and it only lasted about 2 years before it snapped in half from the stress. They I wasted another grand and built it into a 406 powroll crank arias piston. It could best a 400ex when they came out plus had reverse so I never bothered buying one.
All in all the honda was a money pit but it did teach me a lot about porting ,valve mods and cam timing. It was very benificial when I switched to Cannondales .

There is really no point in moving the battery on a 300ex other than to be 'unique'. The battery is relatively lightweight, is in the back of the bike and when you really think about it, pales in comparison to the weight of the rider sitting much higher up on the quad.

Unless you're racing the bike and need that slight extra .02 quicker lap time, then just leave it.
