whats the best way to break a brand new quad in, i think im gettin a kfx450r soon and some people say to just ride like you normaly would, or like run it through heat cycles and gradually work your way up. which should i do???

Everytime I've rebuilt my engine, I break it in the same way I would ride it.

Warm it up for about 10 minutes and about 5 more minutes of easy riding, then give it hell...

No problems or failures yet.:)

Theres a lot of ways people have tried. Heat cycles, the easy riding for a tank or so, riding it like a bat out of hell. I know heat cycles and easy riding at 1st thats what I do but there was an article saying the riding it hard way is best.

BTW- if your getting a KFX450R, watch your leg... those pipes get HOT!

Those quads really need an FI tuner. Immediately.

ive been savin up for a while just to get this quad i dont think im gunna be dissapointed. im only 15 i dont need anymore power than what it has, i came off a 300ex so this should ride like a dream compared to that

when i got my quad brand new i just did alot of exceleration and deceleration, i would get it up to like 4th gear wide open, then let off and downshift as i slowed down, till first, then did it again:cool:

I let mine get up to temp and shut it down, Then once its cooled down I'll let it warm up to temp once again.. Then go ride the snot out of it.. wfo..

a brand new quad I wouldn't worry about, most of them have been ridden already by the staff of the shop lol.. I've been guilty of it.. :blah:

I broke in my first kfx450 at mototown and the second one at CTMX. So ride it like you would. Actually I probaly ran like a tank through just going up and down my street easy before I went there. So one tank going easy then beat on it as you norm. would.

i let it run for 10 minutes, the cool for 30 and repeat 3 or 4 times then its good to go

i warm mine up until the head is hot, then i go out and ride it a little easier than i would, i hold it wide open a lot, but i stay far away from the limiter. Also i put it in its highest gear and go down long hills and let the engines back pressure slow me down. back pressure is good when you break in 4 strokes. after your done breaking it in. change the oil and filter.

I would say that is probably the most important thing.

eveyone has there own idea about this subject. Ive never "broke in" my new or rebuilt motors, just ride them like you always would

think about it this way, why would I want to "break in" a motor to get it used to running any way other than the way i'm going to ride it

yes!!!! I cannot believe we have all forgotten to mention this. I will change the oil after about 30-45min of run/ride time.
