So I found a PC gun on CL for $40 with PC material.. I wanted to try it out, but I really dont want to remove the bushings and other components..

If I have to remove them, what should I replace with? I did a search on EBAY and found bushings, but not the rubber piece that fits over the bearing etc.

I know, dumb Q but I have no idea what to search on.

yes the bushings and bearings will need to be removed.what kinda arms are they?? you can get new bushings and bearings for damn near any kinda a-arm thats out there. then the old paint/pc needs to be removed before you can coat them with new color.track down pappy on here.he's the man when it comes to pc work.he'll give you the do's and donts of the pc game.good luck with it bro..

Thanks..

See attached.. I tried to call parts and they said it was part of the a-arm.. I guess you leave it in and cover with high temp masking tape.

I will PM pappy..

If anyone knows what this is, or if it needs to be replaced let me know.

Pappy answered a PM.. you cant powdercoat stockers. The balljoint has some nylon piece on top that becomes brittle when baked.

I may do it anyway, used 400ex a-arms are cheap like $60. The amount i ride really is a non issue... I may take one for the team.

then you loose out on the money it cost to pc the aarms wich im sure isnt the cheapest and the aarms. just paint them or buy used aftermarkets and get them pcd down the road

Good point.. PC is $40 for both, now out $110.

Cant get much aftermarket cheap these days.. I was looking at kids on quads.. think they were $250 and change.

Not calling Pappy a liar but I have seen plenty of stock a-arms powdercoated. They arent baked that extreme in heat.

400 degree cure temp is enough to make the nylon cushion brittle. I told dbc112 that they "shouldnt" be coated. You can under cure them, by then you might as well paint them. I too have seen many coated, ive also seen them with ball joints flopping around and the person did not even know that was a bad thing.

You also have to worry about the grease liquifying and ruining the coating job. I dont like re-diong work when I know better.

People who want to do their own will do what they do, for me, I wont assume the risk. And yes, I have done them for people in the past. dbc112 sais he will leave the ball joint hang out side of his grill when he cures them, I reckon he will figure it all out.

Grill marks and all!!! I guess that is why I love messing with this thing so much.. cheap parts, cheap labor, and grill marked A-arms.. I am changing my name to super ghetto quad.

Ok, here is a serious idea. How about a heat gun? That way I can control the heat distribution, kind of..

Heat it up first so it sticks, then do a little at a time.. Hmmmmm...

Not a good idea. You are going to be better off painting the
arms. After your heatgun trick I would like to see pics after your
1st ride cause I bet most of the powder coating is gone.
Just my thoghts from tring to save money on things.

Yeah, I stopped by eastwood today. They make various powder coat guns.. good company. Anyway, I talked to the guy. The only other option is this infrared looking thingy that can do about a 10 inch section at a time... cost was $400.

I was trying to avoid the whole overn thing, then the a-arm thing.

I ended up leaving the paint on (metalic chrome) and painting the swinger with Metalic Red. Looks ok.. Not the best prep so it was so so.. .
