On the right side of the oil filter the threads in the case are striped. How can i fix this, also do you think the one screw is enough to hod down the cover and prevent leaking?

re thread it

if you or some one you know has a tap and dye set match it up with the bolt and you should be set.

Then i would have to take the whole case cover off, correct?

no i dont reckon you would
just take the oil filter cover off and there is your two holes they shouldnt at all be no metal shaving get into the case because if im not mistaken the hole should go only so far.

But use you bolt to see how far you will need to re thread it and after its a good fit just take and clean it out good, and you should be ready to go

A heli coil is what is used to repair stripped threads. If it came out, you might have to do it again.

If there was one in there someone messed it up before and you need to redo it.

How do you redo a heli coil, or put one in in the first place.

You buy a new one and insert it and the bolt/screw.

You gotta remove the old one too.

It has instructions on the box.

OR

You can tap it for a larger size and then put a larger bolt in. But you need taps..

I would try to redo the heli coil rather than re-tap for a bigger bolt since you'd probably have to drill out the hold in the oil filter cover as well to handle the bigger bolt.

If you go to the hardware store with the bolt they can messure it and they should have a specific heli-coil kit for you. With tap and the actual coils and u will need to get the correct size drill bit also. ( On the back of the kit it will tell you what size drill bit you need to use. If you have the time i recommend taking the side case off and finding a drill press (any auto shop should have one) to drill out the old threads. It will make sure you get a nice straight clean drill.

it already had a heli coil in it so dose this mean i have to up a size up, or get the same side coil and put it in. Because there was already one in there do i still need to drill it out and tap it or will there already be good threads for it.

It is the right side that is stripped and it is a pretty long screw, will the tap make it down that far?

The tap is about 2 inches long in most cases.

Go to an auto parts supply (a good one) or a very good hardware store and find the proper helicoil. I would take the bolt you already have to be sure.

But honestly if you cant figure this out you really need someone who does know about this stuff to do it.

It looks like the bolt goes all the way through #14, so this would mean i have to take the case off?

Depends, some taps maybe fine.. imho go get a helicoil..
