i took my axel and carrier out to get my swing arm powder coated and the bearings move side to side about a half inch.this is the first time ive took one apart.is this normal?does the axel push these bearings tight when its put back together?

Sounds like the aluminum part of the carrier is worn out.
Those carriers are machined on the inside just deep enough for a bearing & then a seal to fit in. When installing a bearing into the carrier, you press it in untill it stops because there is a lip the touches the outside race of the bearing.
If the axle nuts are good & tight & the axle & bearing on both sides are shifting in & out of the aluminum carrier, then its worn real bad & needs replacing.

Yes. Either two stock ones side by side or one aftermarket. The aftermarket ones are twice the size of stock on the outer race width! Post some pics.

those look like tapered roller bearings to me. Not many ppl run them that i'm aware of. You'd have to torque your axle nut to the right preload for them to last and not have any slop

Thats a tapered brg. carrier! Looks like you have allyou need right there. Post a pic of the rear caliper stay plate. Its the piece you bolt the caliper to. Gotta make sure you have the right one when running the taper carrier! Its thicker than the stock plate!

If you need a brake hub for the tapered carrier, I have one. As stated above, you need to crank down the locknut to the correct specs to get rid of the play. Think about what it's doing.

Let me know.

He must have meant to say brake plate! You can run the tapered carrier with any lock nut.

I'm experiencing technical difficulties with my photobucket site. I'll get the pics up soon as possible. Can you take more pics of that carrier? want to know what brand. My "RAD" carrier has a brake mount plate that is 1/2 inch thick!

Are you sure it's 1/2" thick? I had an RPM tapered carrier and it wasn't close to 1/2" thick. That plate that you have posted, looks correct. My brake stay looks the same. I can get the mic out tomorrow and get a measurement.

Is there a lip on either side of it?

that's one hell of a brake stay. LOL not sure why your problem is, try cranking it down until it is real snug, then back it off a tad so you don't ruin the tapered bearings.

Otherwise...

Matt250... Has a LSR Twin Row for sale that is nice for $75.

Cant really tell what brand carrier that is. Is there no markings at all on it? I've never owned the RPM carrier. So someone else might have to chime in on this.
