How available are 250R parts? You can pretty much buy anything for them right? Rads?

If "rads" means radiators, then yes, you could find a nice used one or a new high capacity one in about five minutes. Most parts are still readily available for a 250R.

Except for the OEM Honda 85/86 model short rod crankshaft, NLA.
You can however though, buy a aftermarket short rod replacement rod kit to rebuild the short rod crank. No shortage of those right now & there are aftermarket brands of the short rod crankshafts.

I'm in the process of building a complete oem 89' 250r and found that you can only get about 1/2 the parts new from honda. But you can find alot on here or ebay. I have a few rads if you are looking.

But you are talking about stock parts that are mostly unnecessary. Most parts are available in aftermarket.

Most new stuff will need to be special ordered as not too many dealers will stock parts.

I don't have a 250R but if I find one in Ontario I bet it won't be $2000 even. 400ex's are still $3000 and I'd rather have a 250R, but if I bought one I wouldn't trust it till I replaced some stuff:

rad, hoses, seals, bottom end, maybe a 310 cylinder, chain, sprockets, brakes, new tires, bars, etc. That's about $1500? Obviously things like gas tank and plastics and bars are available but I'm talking about bottom end but I guess it's only those crank shafts? Whatever doesn't Wiseco or some brand make one?

thats because you are trying to find some things like oem clips that hold wires on the frame and stoopid little guides and crap that are readily available on ebay. honda didnt discontinue a part until it wouldnt sell, then they gave their time to more important things like cranks, rods and tranny gears.

Does anyone know if the new OEM right and left crank cases are complete with the factory installed bearings from Honda?

Only if you buy 86-87 cases.

I have all 88-89 motors. I have enough tranny parts to build another bottom end so I prefer to keep it 88-89. So I assume that you can buy new cases with out bearings for 88-89? Thanks...

Yes the 88-89 come without bearings..The only difference between the two sets is 86-87 are grey/silver and the 88-89 are black.

Thanks for all the info. I plan to polish the cases anyway. I guess it won't matter what color they are. Is Service Honda still beating everyone else's prices on OEM parts???

I apoligize for stepping on this thread.

pending what 312R1's prices are, yes service honda still seems to be about 15-20% less than other mail order places...

and now service honda carries parts for all the major brands... in case you have other toys also... their price on a set of LT500r cases was over $100 less than anywhere else I looked...:)
