Has anyone on here used a 13/39 sprocket combo?

Yea its freaking awesome for pulling second gear wheelies or hill climbing just put it in second and fly right up. Great for woods riding and I love it for riding my track cause coming out of the turn it pulls right up

Well I'm wondering this because I can't seem to make the chain fit right on these sprockets. Do any of you guys remember how many links you are running?

Did you get a new chaing along with the sprockets? If you did then my second question would be did you move your chain tensioner all the way back up?

So what your saying is you put your brand new chain on and it is too short? or that you removed links to make it the right length and it is now too short? If that's correct then put on one or two links what ever you need and move the tensioner until its taught.

Well I haven't cut it yet. I put the chain on to see how many links I need to take off (it came with 100 links).

My problem is I cant get the right length to put the master link on both sides.

Here is a picture. See it will either be too short or too long. Too short won't work and too long I tried and won't have any adjustment left.

WO WO WO what do you mean you won't have any adjustment left? if you dont have any adjustment left if you make it to long then something is VERY wrong. I did exactly what your doing had my chain tensioner back to the top cut my chain one link to long and tightened my chain until it was taught (correct sag) and ive been running it like this since july and i just tightened it for the first time in november. Could you show a pic of the 4 bolts used for the chain tensioner?

so im just curious which seems to be the preferred or better combo? 14/40 appears to be faster top end, however 13/39 seems to be quicker off the line or more torque?

My question is, im not sure what the rear sprocket it, but its stock, i was planning to change just the front to a 13t and leave the stock rear atleast for now, what would that give me? is this a good move or bad move?

i run 15/38 now, had 13/38,14/38,with the 20in holeshots, and 21mudsharks(weighted a ton) 20in sand paddles, I run 15/38 with 20in holeshots now dont need that much torque on these tires I had 13/38 with 20in holeshots and it was like riding on ice just spun out all the time never hooked up now with 15/38 seems to hook up better and Im not riding any super tight trails as before only ride tracks and PA and in PA it never that tight of trails but the coal hills with mud tires you need 13/38 to turn that heavy tires. it all what you like as well.if you ride tight trails you need to go down in front to 13 so it does,t stall alot and you have instant power if you ride wide fast trails, tracks 14/15 will do better IMO!

Here's a picture of what I think is adjusted all the way in. The "clamp" bolts i guess you could say are all the way against the swingarm but it looks like the carrier still has room to move?

Sorry I'm not too familiar with z's it's my dads

Use a 96 link chain and it will work. You will have to adjust the carrier almost the whole way back, but it will work. I gave this info to you over on Z400 central as well earlier.

Thanks for the help. My dad just decided to go back to stock size gearing since he want's to be able to adjust it down the road.

Anybody want a new 13 tooth front or 39 rear?
