I plan on making a THREAD when I'm done with mine, but this is what I have used so far:
180 grit
200 grit
400 grit
800 grit
1000 grit

total cost for sandpaper $50

TONS OF ELBOW GREASE.

I've been taking tons of pics and will be posting them as soon as I am done! Just take your time and remember TONS OF ELBOW GREASE. Good luck.

EXRIDER12,
what did you use the heat gun for?

well then might as well buy new plastics if i'm gonna do it your way!!! thats way to much money. and won't when the plastics scrates again after you paint it just reveal the orignal plastics color under it??

Not if you put enough on it..

I also got some 3M plastic to cover the paint.. New product I am thinking about called 4 skin. Same stuff they use on cars (front bumpers for sports cars), will be cut to specifications of bike etc.

BTW, new plastics are close to $450!!!! You could do it cheaper, depends on how you want it done... just do this if you dont want to spend a lot of cash.

Strip it down with easy off over cleaner
Sand the ***** ot of it with 200.
Clean it..

Get filler $20
Fill it

Get adhesion promoter $5
2 cans of primer $12
2 cans primer sealer $12
Color $20
Clear $12

If you want to protect any plastics, then get 3m stuff..

Final product.

I've got the same problem with my 400. I've got a handful of scratches and deep cuts in the plastic from rolling my quad & little fender benders over the season at my races....but judging by what the guys just said- you're probably better of sanding it down and using a heat gun with a filler. Sounds like the cheapest route anyways- much cheaper than brand new plastics!

not you r gonna laugh at me for saying this but i used clear floor wax to hide scratches on my plastic ... i use the brand name Future Floor Wax , u can pick a bottle up almost anywhere .. if u do use it be carefull not to use any harsh chemicals like degreaser or it will come off... use any kind of car washing soap

i just looking for easy fixes so i'm not laughing!!! lol sounds like floor wax is the easiest way. lol maybe not the best but for a temporary thing just for the races it only has to last for the first turn. lol xc racing is muddy so it only has to look good in the pits.

i used a household sponge or i microfiber towel ... use latex or rubber gloves when u put the wax on or u r going to be left with the same amount of coats on your hands just like your quad ..
