Good luck :macho Now the worries of him driving on his own will start

Pappy
01-24-2009, 09:53 AM
Well, they wouldnt let him take the test:grr:

1) They did not believe he is old enough even though they took his birth certificate and social security card

2) The school gave him an enrollment form but it is only good till Dec 31st of theat year. The friggon school year doesnt end on the 31st:rolleyes:

So he will get a new form from teh school, but have no idea how to verify his age beyond what we have which are all legal documents:mad:

now that is ridiculous. because most parents bring in underage kids to get them driving a little sooner!

He does look young for his age, but I would think that a BC and SS card would be enough! WTF is the problem, don't take their chit, Pappy!!

Does WV use a point system?

In Nj, different forms of identification are worth different amounts and you need something like 6 points.

Things that work are birth certificates or an envelope that was addressed to him at your current address. I think a report card is also worth a point or two. For some reason i remember them not accepting ss cards.

Its harder for kids but when your older other documents such as car registration and a credit card are also worth some points.

You need to take him to China Pappy. They will confirm he is 21. You can get him his 1st beer at the airport bar on the way back home. :D

No clue really except that the wife siad the out of date student enrollment (out of date by what 2 weeks?) is why they wouldnt let him test. Common sense is lost....

ummm....at what point does me stating that he could have all the things that are the "in" thing for teenagers equate to him looking young? All im stating is that he could have long hair, earrings, a nose peircing, and look like everyone else around here that may make him appear older then he is. I see 16 year old kids that look like they are alot older then they are due to these "things". When a birth certificate and SS card is trumped by "he looks to young" and a high school enrollment sheet...I have to assume stupidty wins the day. Thats what is upsetting to me.

Im not mad at anyone over this, just disappointed that common sense doesnt exist. She flat stated she felt he didnt LOOK old enough, hence my bringing forth the ear rings and such. Now, does everyone finally get it? Some fat pig behind the counter feels he doesnt look old enough, disregards the bonafide documents he has brought forth and is turned away due to her "feeling" and a high school enrollment form outdated by 1 week. Now I am still not mad in the sense of anger, I just cant stand stupidty or ignorance.

I have to go on my gut that she see's kid after kid approach her that looks like the typical kid around here and geuss what....they all have one or more of the traits or objects I have stated that effects their appearence. CJ walks up, clean cut, young looking , well mannered and respectfull and he gets this crap...it just doesnt fit.

Again, I state this because she "felt" he looked to young. If he had looked older, would she have ignored the enrollment paper? What if he was home schooled? I just dont get where this all factors in and legal documents are ignored.

Maybe the fact she is black and he sports a close shaven hair style put her on the defensive, who the hell knows. I geuss he could be a skinhead:rolleyes:

Now to add. She retained the high school paperwork and I advised that we should get that back as it had all of CJ's personal info on it. When asked, she argued that it had been thrown away. We calmly insisted and she finally handed it back. It was after we were on the way home that I started really questioning how it all played out and if it was just me or did the wife feel that it wasnt exactly right as well. In retrospect we should have sought a superior and questioned the deal, but we accepted what she had to say and will correct the paperwork she has issue with. I will also withhold that paper until it is asked for and we will be trying our best to seek another representitive to help us to see if my gut is correct.

Oh BTW...an immigrant who is under 18 doesnt need the school enrollment form for a learners permit, but everyone else does. Go figure uh:ermm:

And no where does it state that after the 1st of January a new enrollment form will be needed or that the current one (this is current to the school year as issued by the school) expires and is void. They(the school) does not re-issue them on january 1st even by all accounts I can find that they are expired as of midnight december 31st. More stupidty, if it has to do with a school year then it should follow the school year not the calendar year. The school is unaware of this as well, because I called them and explained the situation. The form CJ received 10 days ago was filled out by the staff at the begining of the 2008 school year and is copied and given to studenst as requested. More proof I think something just isnt right.

Its really no big deal, we will have an updated form tuesday and he can go tae his test. It just irk's me when I see blind stupidity slow down things that common sense could have avoided. And if I am correct, that she could have allowed him to test with the issued enrollment form, then what reason would there be for her to not allow it:) CJ could sign up for the military with his SS card and birth certificate, but he cant get a learners permit or license:chinese:

Well this is where legalities can hit the grey area.

If the state deems that the enrollment form is void at midnight dec 31st, and the school doesnt....well we have a snafu. In the big picture its not a huge deal like ive stated, but when I saw that an immigrant 15 year old can get a learners permit without an enrollment form ..well I start to simmer:p

Now they can claim that, say the immigrant needs an enrollment form, but it isnt included in the list of documents needed for them, or refugees. So they can appease anyone such as myself who may inquire, in reality and by written documentation they do not require it. And if it is a selectively enforced document, what or who qualifies to make that determination? Is it only applicable to white or black kids? (I am being a jerk but you get my point)

Getting your license is a big deal, and it shouldnt be a hassle. thankfully Cody just shrugged and said we will get it next week, but c'mon.....you know damn well any kid would want to get it right there especially when we shouldnt have had a single issue as long as he passed the test.

Its a good thing I wasnt clicked in to what was happening at the time or I may have pressed things. I was under the assumption when we left that the card issued by drivers ed was out dated and that caused some hesitation on my part to get more involved. ( I have really bad hearing so the wife does most of the chatting with folks at things like this)

And no, I wasnt calling anyone a loser, it was an attempt to draw a picture that I should let him look like everyone else I see his age and maybe he wouldnt have had a problem. I live with the punk, I know how old he is and how old he looks:p Funny no one asked how old the picture I posted even was, it was taken back in late may or early june of 2008 I think:tired: I just like the pic. So for all the age verification specialists, add 8 months and change to your data:eek:

When i got my license i passed right away but the computers went down when i went in to get it printed. I ended up having to wait all weekend and then Monday they were still down. I go it on Tuesday which i wasn't super happy about but it just meant I wouldn't have to pay back the months of not being DD a little longer.

having to go to a DMV is just an all around horrible experience every time. Seems like the people that work there are all on a power trip. I guess its just one of those things everyone has to go through.

I felt that way about the DMV in MD, but here in WV everytime we have been has been pleasant and we have been served well. Cody had the school get him another form ready and he explained to them what happened and alot of eye rolling went on he said, and some mumbling about changes blah blah blah. The school secretary stated she had'nt had any other requests for this so far in January, and she knows of several from Codys drivers ed class that have already been (with the same form) and recieved their permit....go figure

depends where you go. I went to a DMV in the next county only a 25 minute drive or so. Everything is digital and electronic it was amazing. Everyone was happy to be at their job it was like another planet, went right in they took my picture said take a seat they have TV's and everything while your waiting in this huge building. My number was called in a minute on the digital displays I greeted the lady and went to the car. It wasnt a bad experience at all just driving around talking to the instructor, having fun with the obstacles. A lot of people are nervous which scares me that someone is nervous to drive or to screw up, that means your not confident. Just like when people slow down when cops are around or behind them they do 5 under. They think they are going to pull them over for doing something wrong. I just shake my head. If your going the speed limit and not driving wrecklessly what are they going to do?

Welp. much better trip.

No one even looked at the form from his school.

He passed ...now we are all unsafe:devil:

yah i hate going into them public waiting areas where they serve 100 people and they always only have like 3 stations open so you sit there waiting for about an hr to get ur number picked, just for something stupid that you need to get done.

LOL I have been to the dmv's in MD and i am very surprised someone hasnt open up in one of them! I spent 6 hours one day trying to get a title squared away. Lines would be way out the door, non english speaking folks making everyones life miserable. I hated it. Some are still bad but they have fixed alot of their issues, atleast the last few times I had to go to one.
