would you keep your lights?if you did that might look pretty cool but if not i would'nt cause you got sweet light covers and they dont make em any more.

i never thought that hoods looked good on the 1st gen ex's, no matter how cleanly they were mounted

i love it looks now but i love the look the hoods give it. maybe i'll get another set of front fenders to try it out on those. idk?? but i would have to make sure the shade of red matched the rear plastics they are faded signifcantly. this atv is awesome goes through prolly 8hrs of mean riding every week. so it is extremely well used!!!

Yea i kinda agree with you hondarider11. Having +2s really set the hood off for some reason. Im still going get one

I guess it's personal opinion. I say no hood, I like the stock look. As a matter of fact, I bought mine and it has race cut fenders. I went to the dealer today, and found out I can buy new front fender for $118. I'm going back to the full stock look.

I say hood if you don't need headlights. I would love to throw a 450 hood on my ex but need the headlights and don't have the money for aftermarket lighting.

I think both ways look good... but I have seen better looking hoods. I'll try to find the others....

Anyways, I think which way to go depends...

If you NEVER need lights, I think the hoods are OK.

But otherwise, I just don't see the point. If you use lights, I see no reason to do a hood, then some other type of lights to put on it.

i actually went kind of backwards. i found a nice set of lights that i wanted, and then the hood came afterwards. i llllove the lights compared to stock.

dang this is a hard decision. i don't use the headlight often. i have two other atvs that i use for all of my night time stuff. i guess i could always figure up some way to mount the old headlights temporarily if i ever needed them? and what do you think would be the best looking hood?? if we could pictures that would be awesome!!

What kind of light, what kind of power draw, and what kind of price for those lights?

My Polaris 400 needs help in the lighting department.

thats the only difference between sports and scramblers.

k pipelss 416 you quad is pretty sick and the spitting image of what i want mine to look like somday!!! idk guys?? the hoods are pretty sick looking. i just don't know if i should stay with the awesome stock look and be a little different than the crowd of nice 400ex's or go with that 12,000 dollar quad look?? so many things aid in making it look good though. like the taller bend handlebars and +1 steering stems. and cool shocks and tires,a-arms and you have to have cool handguards. they tend to look a little weird without those things.

i disagree, i always go look good, then performance. cause if you decide to stop, you will have an ugly good running quad. not many people will buy one, but a good looking stock one. people will go nuts for, lol trailblazer is a perfect example, stock everything, seat cover, custom painted plastics, decals, and painted stock rims, and i got a 400ex for it lol

i've always been a looks before power guy. besides for every thing you do to make it look better it gains a couple horses right? :) but i just don't know if i have the money for anything right now. :( stupid economy.

I agree with performance mods then looks. For most it's more fun riding than it is staring at the quad.

. i'm gonna do the spal fan on the oil cooler and air scoops, crf timing chain and curtis sparks advance keys.so really there isn't a-lot to do performance wise. that's all i'm doing to my quad performance wise. i'm really planning on turning it into a hybrid somewhere down the road so i'm not gonna put a crap load of money it the engine just to sell it in a year.

agree with speedy and rc, i did suspension first, and im just now getting started on minor engine mods, and by the looks of it it'll be awhile before i start on my cosmetic stuff. what good is a sick looking quad that is getting smoked and left behind by everyone else? :p
trailrider, i think your quad looks pretty sick as it is. i wouldnt put a hood on it. i love the nacs headlight cover :D

trailrider894
01-28-2009, 05:27 PM
well guys you won i'm not gonna hood. sorry to all you guys you wanted my headlight covers. if i ever decide to sell them i'll give you guys first pick. i think powermadd400ex really kinda put it all into perspective. i mean a sick looking slow 400ex isn't better than a stock looking fast 400ex. i still get looks anyway. actually had a kid on 450r at the local riding place drooling. lol don't know what his deal was. he kept coming over and talking to me about it. then he was like folowing me around watching me ride. it was kinda strange i think that he has never really seen someone who r knows how to ride before. ;)

Dude definately a hood! Really brings the 400 alive.

I am working on making some fiberglass replica's of the quadtechs. Unfortunetly since it is soooo cold the fiber glass is taking forever to set up.

Anyone know where I can get the grills made at?
