i've been having problems with my tranny on my 400ex and i found an xr 400 motor and i was wandering if you could put the electric start off the 400ex on the xr 400 motor

I beleve you have to split the XR case to install the e-start (You need the ex crank shaft) ......at that point just fix the ex trans

in order to put the elecric start on the xr motor you have to change cranks and then use all of the ex side cases and other parts ...

no i don't want kick start, can you use the xr tranny then in the ex motor?

Yes you can. Just be aware that there are a few bearings/bushings that will also have to be changed over to make the swap as some of the shaft diameters are larger on the xr trans. I did it to mine and love xr's gearing compared to the ex, much better for mx racing. Plus larger shaft diameter equals better reliability and strength.
