VIN check on ATV???

hey guys,

I'm looking at buying an 04 pred that the current owner is making me a little nervous about. Does anyone know where I can check the VIN number for free? or maybe if anyone has an account somewhere they could run the number for me?

Your local law enforcement would be a great place to start.

I've called local pd, highway, and sherrifs. None of them will do it without the atv in frot of them so they can confiscate it if it is stolen. I don't have a problem with it, but it's not easy to convince a seller to meet you at the sherriff's station.

In Iowa the DNR handled it all for me did not have to have the quad there.

Here in Alberta we have a seperate registry office where we get out licence plates. They will also do checks on vin numbers for like $8. 00 so if your state has a similar system just check at the registry. If you were in Canada I could help a little more. Sorry

Same thing here in Ohio. Call the the local title or registrars office..

If you are nice they will tell you if it is clear or may give you the owners info.

I told them that I was calling on it for insurance before purchase and the agency came up with a error. Blah Blah.
