I am rebuilding my motor. It is a 400ex. So far I have a JE 440 kit, and was wondering which hotcams to get. I see people using both the stage 3 and stage 2. Which is better? I will be doing both a lot of mx and xc.
Also I found a DG exhaust. Are these good? I know they make bumpers but show an up to 6hp gain like all others. I like it because it matches the set up and color scheme I am going with.

different cams increase top-end/mid-range/low-end power so whatever you want is what will depend on what cam u should get. i would stay away from DG exhaust nobody on here that i've seen using them. HMF are pretty cheap and good . and they sound awesome!! i have a white bros e-series that is pretty cool.

well stage on is low to mid range power and stage two is mid-range to top-end. i think all the stage three is a new version of the old stage two, witch just loses less bottom end than the stage 2. so yeah.

i have never heard of how good the dg exhaust is but i would recommend sparks. they are little pricy but they are not bad. as for cams i would go with web cams.

id go with stage 3.and as far as exhaust sparks is the best.WB is second best but they dont make them anymore.so id get sparks or hmf they are extremely good for the price.i wouldnt get dg just because there qualitly isnt the best from what ive heard.

i think I will go for a hmf...seems more affordable for me. a slip on will be fine correct? Also I am going with a stage 3 cam

yes a slip-on. hmf is a good brand!!!! a header wouldn't give you enough power gain to be worth the money. i bought mine with a aftermarket header. makesure you have a airfilter like a k&n with outerwears and take the airbox lid off. then you'll really be packing the punch!!! :eek2:

for the header i recommend taking it off and grinding down the header welds to increase air flow. it may give you more a bit more hp and the best thing is that its free.

I read that somewhere here. But it takes a special bolt? Which would that be and is that for a dremel? I am going to get one to clean the ports out in me head.

You may want to replace the header as well. A header may not do much for a stock machine but when you add the bb, cams, and intake the larger header lets the whole package breathe better. Call hot cams and see which cam they reccomend to you to be sure.
