I'm seeing a lot of 02-04 250F's and 450F's for 2500-3g. What are some things I want to look at when buying a bike that is either stock and only trail ridden or raced and replaced often? I weigh 190lbs, which will consume less gas in the woods, and cruising under 50km/h? I want to buy a no-problems woods bike. Soft suspention, lightweight,, maybe a headlight, a big fat tire, etc.. Is there a big diff between sprocket & chain wear on the 450's? I've ridden a 660 and an 02RM125, they were fast then but now I would call them snails. Someone also is selling an 04 YFZ for 3g, stock, and mint.

go buy a crf 450x, headlight, e start, easily made road legal, fat rear tire, and 450 power.

If I'm going 2-4km/h in the woods it won't fall over on me if I turn the bars all the way to turn around will it? If so then it's not too heavy, the 02's were like 230lbs? I also rode a TTR225 that thing was a beast and a half but it had a nice balance point.

The wr450 and CRF450x are good choices, but don't leave out KTM. They have awesome bikes for the woods.

ive ridden a ttr225.. id much rather ride an mx bike in the woods than that thing.

id go with the crf250x or 450x. or the WR series for the yamahas.

What kind of gas mileage does a 250F get over a 250 2-stroke? A 125 will take too much clutching and I've done that enough on an RM 85 when I weighed 250lbs LOL. I either want a 400ex (which are still expensive, even the 99's are like 3 grand which is retarded) or a 250 2-stroke. Even if you do get a big tank, how much longer will a 400ex run on trails for? My last bike was an 82 KE100 and I went for hours and never ran out of gas, I was mixing about every 4 days. Does anybody have a 400ex and live in Ontario? How often do you get hung up and atleast how often does the swinger even touch? 4" is nothing. A lot of the time I just want an MX bike because of the clearance. It's such a toss up, you're either caught up on a sport quad or you are inbetween a quad's tracks with the pegs touching the dirt walls. You can't deny the suspension is also Cadillac when compared.

Also a dirtbike mechanic told my dad he didn't want a 4-stroke, the top ends are $1000? Do you think KTM will be making 2-strokes in 2010 and so on? Those 200 & 300 xcw's look pretty mean.

.. and that 85 was horrible on gas btw. I don't want to go slow but I don't want to use a lot of gas because I want to go on far rides. There are an abundance of trails around here though. I'd most likely make a track through the woods and get my friends to do lap times. Is a 250 2-stroke overkill for woods?

2009 last for standard two strokes. for stroke topends are very expensive. i can see 1000 easy.

if your on a 450x and your doing 3km/h, you will need the clutch pulled in. and the bike is well balanced, but its your balance that makes the bike fall if your going that slow.

you cant ride a 250 two stroke to its potential in the woods.

It's torqier. Should lug easier, and use less gas. Do KTM's feel 'weird' and not at all like an RM? I hear that a lot. And why do 2-strokes if you hold open the throttle for a long time are they prone to blowing up? Why don't they have a sophisticated governor that steadily drops the RPM's when it sences detonation, polaris has it on a sled  .

That's up there with 'Tireballs'. Reliability and a constant top speed, but I don't think 4-strokes blow up as often? :p Outdated maybe.

I just got a YZ125 and it'll pull strait off the bottom without an excessive amount of clutching when the temperature is right. (It's been snowing and then warming up alot here lately.) But anyways I'd say get the 250 bro, I'm already looking to get some more uumph from my 125

Most of the time traction would be the problem here, I'd probably get a 125 over a 250 just to start out on, I'm not a racer but I like cruising fast. In a sloppy field I raced a 125 on a 660 and they were even through the gears. I don't think if that 125 were a 250 it would have gone any faster. Does anyone have a 125 with a rekluse? Those don't stall out on you in 1st correct?

Basically if your in the powerband it will never bog. If you do bog just pull the clutch in hit the powerband and then dump the clutch. Jetting is key though. If your bike is jetted for 80 degree weather and you go out in the winter its gonna bog alot. It can also blow up if its not jetted properly.

The main things that sold me on my two-stroke instead of a four-stroke though is the fact that top end on a 2-stroke motocross bike = $90 Top end on a 4-stroke motocross bike = $1000-1500. Basically on a 2-stroke keep your top-end changed and keep up with maintanence and nothing can go wrong. If it does.. It's usually minor. On a 4-stroke theres usually a major rebuild in place.

Also my YZ125 was only $1300 and a YZ250f will run probably about $3800 if you buy used

Oh I missed the part about the Rekluse but nope, No motocross bike will ever have a rekluse. You probably don't want one anyhow. Once you get used to the clutch its definatly worth having it. There's so much more you can do with it.

I didn't think you lost the clutch, I thought it just didn't stall and wear out the clutch in 1st, like it was beefy and made for it or something. A 125 does have enough power if 1st gear was like an automatic. That might even be a good invention, I mean it's not like you'd have to use it in a higher gear. 1st should act like an automatic, and use the clutch to shift. Something that wouldn't wear out.
