I am reassembling my top end on my 400ex and am installing the cam now I have the index marks and timing marks aligned and just need to insatll the two bolts on the cam sprocket my question is it appears as though the cam can be mounted one way or rotated 180 degrees and bolted in that position as well, I do not see any refrence to this in the manual, which is correct or does it matter? please help

it doesn't matter but put the lobes down, it makes the rest of the install easier.

jb's right when the lobes are down and you are at tdc the valves are closed so it is on compression stroke .....
