Looking for some opinions, I race MX but we run a series with dirt bikes and the tracks get rutted really bad from the bikes. I'm thinking about switching to 20" rears and 22' fronts instead of the 18" set up. Anybody see any disadvantage to that set up? I just keep getting caught up alot on the ruts and think the 20's might be the way to go.

if the tracks are sandy and rutted real bad then you might have an advantage. why dont you just keep your 18's and use your stocks when it gets rutted

yeah, I'm thinking about putting my stocks back on, just thought I'd throw it out and see what others thoughts were.

A lot of racers will switch to 21" fronts and 20" rears for sandy and loamy tracks like Southwick.

I'm guessing that's the hot ticket for a really rutted out track also.

yeah most people who have more money than me to spend on riding have a set of 20s and 21s mounted and everything in their trailer in case it gets muddy or rutted

when i started mx i had 20" rear and 22" fronts, but then i baught a cheap rear 18" setup for $40...the tires were about 1/4 of tred left but the difference in accelleration was amazing...i wouldn't ever go back to big tires on the track...but if the conditions are bad enough more clearance might the the way to go.

another thing could be a swinger skid plate, there is a lot of surface area with the skid plate that will cause you to get stuck..if you remove the skid plate (if you have one) this will let the rotor and sprocket dig threw the dirt and you can clear a lot more...the only thing is if you ride in rocky conditions you'll probly ruin your brake rotor
