I'm looking to get a little more pull from my 250r. I like the idea of a 350 Powervalve bore and stroke combo., but i'm not dead set on it. My problem is, I don't have any experience or connections to know who/what company is good.

Any tips or suggestions? Web addresses are also appreciated.

Yeah, i ahve gotten in a few ESR engines. To be honest with ya, the 310 bolt on kit, with Woods porting is a scary engine. It pulls and pulls. I was VERY impressed when i rode a customers setup! Of course i helped him set it up;)

Most engine kits I've seen are for the 88-89 engines. Anybody know the issues with an 86 engine?

Pappy,
U will LOVE the kit!! But ill tell u now, order yourself a 12t front sprocket. Thats what we had to do. I thought something was really wrong with it, cause i had to clutch it in 2nd gear to get it to kick in. And i only weigh 150lbs! But we slapped the 12t on it, and WOW!!! U will love the kit!

From what i gather, u can just get a little more out of the 88-89 engines with less mods. But the ESR cylinder fit all years.

the 86 is a short rod . the kits are available for them as well, but if its a big bore like 330 or bigger ...it will require modifactions to the lower end. i know its a good idea to have a tight bottom end before adding the kind of power some of those kits put out:)

Yeah a tight bottom end is hard to find these days:D I know its sick but unlike quads, most 15 year olds have tight bottom ends haha

Are you sure I can put a big bore into a tight bottom end? Do the bottom ends loosen with age?

if u want the quality high performance, ESR is the place to go to. talk to Darrin, and he will set you up with what you want. ive heard that the 330 is actually not too much quicker than the 310, and in a drag race would only pull about 4 feet on a 310. plus for the 330 you need to use the long rod i believe, but for barely a 100$ bucks more, i think it might be worth it. i have heard some people say that they preferred the 310's over 330's tho, and that they thought it had more bottom end pull.

it would be a good idea get make sure ya got a Toight bottom end:cool:

What about a stroker crank, like the ESR 370 kit? Any problems with that and the shorter 86 rod?

And if I do get the tight bottom end, can I still fit the longer rod?

ESR all the way here. They do great work at a reasonable price. I had them completely rebuild my motor from top to bottom for around 800 dollars. If I do get a diff cyl I will go with ESR or a 265PV sparks. Has anyone heard how ESRs PV's are coming along?
