400 wont idle

i just bought a 99 400ex last night and it wont idle. the guy i bought it from said to just turn up the idle screw. so when i got home i went to turn it and it would turn a little ways then stop and when i let go it would turn back to where it was. what could be the problem??

Make sure your idle cable is untangled and try it again. You need a straight shot with no curvature in the line to adjust the idle. If raising the idle doesn't help then clean your pilot jet cause most likely it is clogged.

the cable seems to be how it should be but do you think it could be froze up some how because when i turn the nob the whole calbe twists.
