Got bored and decided to tear it down. Gettin the frame pc'd the factory red and hopefully get a better suspension setup than stock!!

Motor was fresh when i bought it so i'm not touchin it this winter. Hopefully it'll make it all summer and i can tear into it next winter! It's stock aside from a cool head, rad valve and a LRD pipe/silencer.

enuf of the crap, on with the show:

when i bought it:

You'll want to look for cracks in those parts of the frame painted black, especially where the rear motor mount joins up. Also check around where the top steering stem mount attaches to the frame.

yea thats rhino lining on there and tough to see any cracks. I'm gonna check it out after sandblasting and hopefully its all ok. I really didn't wanna add alot of gussets as i'm tryin to keep it stock appearing.

that looks like a foot peg welded to the back motor mount tubing...

BERT306

yes it does kinda lol.

Is this typical damage of a 250R? anything i should be afraid of?

i would cut all the bad parts out and re-weld/ gusset everything that has been repaired.
It would be very well worth your time.

Ya while it is stripped down defintly gusset the frame, save a lot of headache down the road.

Well, be warned; sand blasting will hide cracks.

if you sand blast the frame you will be able to find the cracks easily.

Its at the sandblaster now, i said screw it and gonna get it done w out gussets.

I could be kickin myself down the road. Its not like it'll be seein much air time or anything, just some cruisin.

we found all the cracks in mine while the paint was on, took nesassary steps welded them all then took it to the sand blaster. I agree way easier to find when there is paint on the frame.

well if you do a white metal blast,it looks like the cracks are screaming for you to save them.

You really need to redo that part where theres a peg welded in....

Maybe obvious cracks that have separated aren't hidden, but hairline cracks that are apparent only because of the rust that builds up on them are masked. If you sand blast these fine cracks, you'll have to magnaflux to get them completely.

I've welded a number of cracks on my stock frame that weren't evident after I stripped it.

A little late now kinda, but I wrote this up with pictures helping show where the stress is has been fatiguing the metal the most and where cracks will appear next if they aren't already. The paint helps bring out these details. Nice looking frame!

i'm lucky i found a 250r with such good factory plastic. Thought about getting some white Maier plastic and putting factory 89 stickers on it and switching back and forth when i got bored.
