i have a chance to get a 2000 yzf426 motor with hinson racing clutch basket in it with carb.
or
a trx250r motor
its for my 87 r
idc about the extra work thats involved when putting in the 426
but what do you think would be better. have more power etc
Put the 250R engine in it. End of discussion.

Go with a 250R motor, if you put a 426 motor in a stock frame it'll be worthless not to mention of you want a fourstroke, get a YFZ450 - they are cheap these days. I've seen 04-05 YFZ's and TRX's for $2500.

i thought it was discussed before, but I dont think the 4 stroke motor will fit in a R chassis wo lots of mods

ya i think your right Dunatic it's not worth it, I raced mx bikes for a while and the 426 motor is junk, that is the feed back I received anyways, build a a nice 250 based motor.

I had a full Laeger YZ426, I rode it 3 times and sold it. The gear box just sucked for MX as far as I'm concered. My Laegers 250R was just so much better, but thats just my opinion.

Does that motor have a 3 speed , Wait a year or two and find a 09 fuel injected crf motor if you want to build a hybrid, thats what my next project will be if I can round up the right frame and parts when it comes time.
