Well I found an older monte carlo (not sure exact year- but around an 88). The car seemed to be in mint condition, and the guy said it only had 26k miles on it. How can I tell if it odometer rolled over and its really not 126 or even 226? the motor is the 5.3, and how do I know if it is an SS? and also, are they fast? sorry for all the questions, just curious. he's asking 2500. its all original. thanks, neil

im not sure about it but i dont think the monte carlos rolled over but dont take my word for it, as for a 5.3 never knew that either its was usually a 305 or a 350 but im not sure on that either, but i do know a 327(pretty sure that a 5.3) are pretty stout motors, the stock 305 in my el camino would run mid 13's in the quarter and it was pretty much stock, as for it being SS pictures would help

The car is not original if its got a 5.3(327) in it. Back then the SS's came with H.O 305's with an aluminum intake manifold and an L81 corvette cam stuffed in them. SS's also come with a high performance suspension setup, i think its called F41 sport suspension or something like that. If the car is original it will have a TH2004R transmission in it. Apearance wise the car should have pin stripes and SS badging all over it, if it is a real SS. It will also have a spoiler on the trunk lid if its an SS. Also if you really want to get down to the nitty gritty look at the 8th digit in the vin number and it should have the letter G there. if it doesnt tell the guy he's blowin smoke up your arse:devil: and that you know better than that. Hope this helps you:blah:

well he didn't say it was an SS. But he didn't even know what size motor was in it (he said he thinks a v6 lol). So I didn't even ask. but if it really does have 26k, even if it isn't an SS, could it be worth it? I know its hard without pics, but its mint. thanks, neil

noo im showing how much the guy actually knew about the car. It does have a 5.7. He didn't even know what size so I wanted to see what he would say so I said "man is that the 4 cylinder or the 6 cylinder? them 6 cylinders are f'n fast!" so he said "oh its a six cylinder its fast!". So I cant really expect the guys to tell me too much about the car lol

Wikipedia will tell you everything.

Montes came with the 5.0 (305) or the 5.7(350). See how the exhaust looks and the body mounts.
