You will want to replace the front shocks on the 400 the back one is fine. I am 240 lb and race mx on mine. I love it!

Yes they are really good in mx,but at the rate of the industry the 400ex seems to be loosing more and more to other makes

honestly the 400ex is one of the most mx capable machines out there in production. What quad is better for mx?

cannondale are much better stock for stock but I think I full on cannondale vs 400ex would win.

z400 is a matter of choice, the 400ex has better handling while the z has couple more overall hp.

As for mod vs mod the z400 can gain a lot more hp but still the 400ex handles better in which I think it just depends on your riding style and what you want.

As for 250r I would say that their the best but I hate 2 strokes and they have been abused for the about 15 years which I couldn't see owning a quad as old as me unless everything on it was rebuilt.

Just my opinion, if you don't like it, I could care less and your not gonna change it so don't get all upset guys.;)

i like all 2 and 4 strokes but the thing is

250r has been beatin on and it scares me to buy one!

thats why i want a 400ex! and i need 4 stroke power! :devil

in the last shootout between the 400EX and Z the Z also won all of the races but one on a track that favored the 400EX, I though most of you didn't trust the mags anyways.

Any sport quad can be good at Mx if you set it up right. Right now stock for stock, The Cannondales, Honda 400ex, LTZ/KFX 400 are the best out right now for MX.

well im inbetween the 250r or the 400ex and I DO NOT NO what to pick!

12-20-2002, 12:52 PM
You can't go wrong with either,,what power do you like best,,smooth 4 stroke power to the ground or hard hitting 2 stroke.

400ex,,you can buy new with no flaws and a warranty..

250R,,god knows what 20 people have owned it and what it's been thru..but you'll find out when you buy it and take it out for a spin..you might be buyin a headache....no warranty

You can find really nice 250rs for 5,000. on cycletrader.com they have them, some of them are race ready. If you have the money to put into it then get a 250r!

i would say just get a 400ex, this way u get a machine that is not 16 years old, u dont have to worry about a new rebuild. and the power is plenty for a begginig racer, and as ur first mods u should get tires, rims, and an axle

Bean

try to find an R that looks good, hasnt had more than 2 owners, and look at stuff like brake pads, bushings, etc, to tell if it has been maintained well, simple things like that can save your money

im not a beginer racer :-\ but the thing is the only 4 wheel atv i road for 3 years straight was a BLASTER!!!!

I feel ashamed!!!

I Fu-king hate thoughs things so small so no low end for my heavy *** !!

but going from rideing a blaster to 400ex must be a HUGE difference im guessing?

" Nausty"cannondale vs 400ex would win.

Ok there is no way a 400ex would beat a c-dale...This is why such pro's as Dana Creech,Korry Ellis, use the c-dale in their competitions..I've never seen them use a 400ex,because its most likely under powdered compared to the C-dale..Im not hating 400ex's because i have one,but if i would ever go ahead and buy a production bike id go ahead with a C-dale,or i would build my own like i am now

mod for mod I think a 400ex would be better and THAT IS MY OPINION, DON"T YOU GET THAT?

Doesn't dana creech use a 250r anyways? I know Doug Eichnar did just fine against the cannondales last year in the 4 stroke pro class.

Yes, and Yes, and this was the closest this Dale ever got to me, 2 seconds after this pic I was 5 lengths ahead of him.

The 400ex is a fun bike for MX and can be maintained at a reasonable cost. The 250r has the ability to turn faster lap times with the right rider. However at the National level it comes down to high dollar hybrid bikes like the CRF and the YZF and a few power valve 250r's if you want to be in the top competition. Last year even saw a few of these bike showing up in the C and B classes.
Cannondale - I dont think Korry is riding them any more, and Dana Creech does most of his competition on his R and his Hybrid.
