valve settings mm or thou ?been told an read it plenty off times mx cam set '4+5 is it mm or old money thou as ive still got orrible ticking an a bad starter. ive done it in mm .oo4=.oo5
plz take the piss as much as u like but also advise .as its doing me ead in scared to use it!!!!!

.004" = 4 thousandths = .10 mm
.005" = 5 thousandths = .13 mm
If you adjusted them to .004 & .005 mm (less than .0002") your bike would "not run well".

for mx i would put them at .005 thou

what is the point if going to a bigger gap? i have never heard of this. thanks

Thermal expansion I think is part of it. Don't they run a tighter lash on aftermarket cams?

The difference due to a slight temperature change is negligible. A looser lash setting(more gap) will effectively make the duration and lift a (very) little less. Tightening up the lash yields a bit more top end, loosening it up yields a bit more low end.
