I picked it up yesterday at 2:30 pm from the dealer so i could go riding in the snow. I only had the 10 hr service done since they didn't have the recall parts. I had to go home earlt because my ds started to hesitate a little nd was making a strange rattling noise. when I got home i started looking at my bike and noticed the mechanic zip tied my clutch cable to my coolant hoses, The plastics over the gas tank do not fit properly any more, the front fender plastics are now missing screws and brackets, and I paid almost $200 to get ****ty service. I wish today wasn't sunday I want to yell at the dealer.

I am very anal about my stuff I try to keep every thing as nice as possible. I know the when I dropped it off the screws were in the fenders and the plastics fit better, there was no hesitations or rattles, and the clutch cable was routed differently. all I wanted was the valves adjusted, recalls done, and the antifreeze leak fixed.

Why did they change my spark plugs?????? They don' recomend this at 10 hours in the owners manusl.

Why would they zip tie my clutch cable to the radiator hose? Does the mechanic think he is an enginer or was he just lazy or retarded? This can cause more antifreeze leaks when the clutch cable rubs through the radiator hose.

And i still have to bring it back for the recalls. they had it a whole week.

this is how i got it back except for the snow and road saslt/sand on it.

I've had very bad experiences with having dealers adjust valves too, not many know what they're doing on these things.

They told me that when the pulled the valve cover off to check the valves they did not need any adjustment. I believe them that they didn't need adjusting. My concern is that what they had to do to get the valve cover off to axcess the cams to check clearance. Did they have a 15 year old kid doing the work???

I own a repair shop the only reason I brought it in for this service is for warranty reasons. I do not want them to give me any reason to void my warranty if i brake the motor. I want to have on reccord that i hade the first service done at the dealer.

Maybe I can get the recall parts from them and do it my self. I really dont want anyone working on my stuff any more.

I think my hesitation was just from a loose spark plug. I was checking them a couple of minuits ago and the inner plug was loose. the outter plug is very tight. I can see leving the inner plug loose if you are russing your work or if you are STONED it is a little tougher to get to it. lol

does anyone know what the book time is to check valve adjustment on the ds450???

Its a shame that you got screwed by the dealer. When you bring your atv to the dealer you are under the assumption that they are the experts on these machines and that they have every resource available to them to get the job done right. I dont have much faith in the dealer either. I always had assumed that even if the mechanic was not that good that he would get good by the volume of atvs that go through his shop. Unfortunatley its obvious that the mechanic at your dealer is lazy and does not care. He has suceesfully turned you off as to dealing with their buisness again and you wil probably go to another Can-Am dealer in the future. So in fact they have not only going to have to make good on this poorley performed service, they are now also going to lose future buisness from you. (JMO)

i installed my own clutch cable and thats exactly how mine is on and my plastic dont fit exactly perfect on the gas tank either

i called a canam dealer to order a new clutch cable and youll never guess wut they told me..... lol they said "wut is a ds450" i said you gotta be kidding me and i hung up lol morons

i called another dealer and said i needed the cable for a race the next day and they took one off a showroom floor ds450 and sold it to me... now thats a good dealership!

i dnt think green around your spark plug is normal... if it was normal there wouldnt be anything around it... its obviously leeking from somewhere and it should be fixed not just left

my plastic doesnt fit correctly around the tank of mine either....I've tried many time to make it do so, and it just doesnt, so I gave up......seems as if all the dealers are dumb...I bought mine last april, and everytime I would call to order parts, and tell them for a can-am ds 450, they would ask what year, and everytime I would say "2008, uhhh the only year they have out" ....and when I bought I waited there for almost 3 hrs for them to install a pro-design kill cord, and they came out and said this kind doesnt work on the can-ams, so I orderd a differnt style, and I didnt get in time for my first race on the bike, and motoworks had a prodesign, and installed it for me, in about 5 minutes...I only take it to the dealer for warranty work, I do not trust, them but then they are responsible for what they do, and its a free fix....so far they havent messed up and the warranty work

The green stuff is definatly a leak on my spark plug and down the motor and is collecting on my skid pan. they said they fixed the leak. With the clutch cable zip tied to the coolent hose it will rub through the cooling hose and caus a bigget leak. the plastics can be adjusted so they fit better. The plastics fit alot better befour they took them off.

If you can post a picture on how your clutch cable is routed so i can reroute mine so it is not rubbing the radiator hose.

As for my front fender screws and brackets I put blue locktite on them after i first rode and washed the bike they were loose Ichecked them after ridding to make sure they didn't loosen up. they were there when i brought it in to the dealer.

as for the hesitation i had it was the loose spark that they changed. I took it for a ride after i tightened it and the hesitation is fixed.

check ur plugs, i just pulled mine out and its a green peice of plastic that just sits there i guess? i dont kno what purpose it serves. for the leak its not the hoses, its the hose clamps! get some good ones that dont losen tight from viberation. (i got mine from jerrys never had a coolent leak after that)

I just finished replacing my hose clamps and adjusting my plastics. I hope the antifreeze leak is fixed taking the plastics off and putting them on correctly is a pain in the but. lol It only took me 40 minuits.
they fit perfictly now.

while i was in their i snipped the pink. I am going to test it out now :D

I just got back from riding. ( i ran out of gas) Looks like the antifreeze leak is fixed.:D I didn't realise that you dont have much time when the gas light comes on befoure you run out of gas. lol I had to push it about 1/2 mile to get home. I am glad i ran out after i got on the road.

With cutting the pink I didn't notice much performance gain just the revlimiter is alot higher.

so tell me what you thought about the pink wire man!?!? i have been wanting to do it to mine but i want to break it in first and get a pipe. you might not of noticed the power you thought if you didnt take the cover off the airbox and add a pipe or take the baffle out. but i dont know first hand. i thought with cutting the wire you had to do those things??

Does your fan come on a lot? Seems like it's running hot often or maybe that’s normal? I don't know the MAP from the pink wire cut but wonder if it runs it a little leaner/hotter?

We noticed a good size performance gain with the wire cut, think I seen 4-5 hp gain on a HQ dyno run if I remember right.

I believe the fuel map that the pink wire unlocks richens it up alot. That's why you have to take the airbox lid off and spark arrestor out if you're running stock. There is a fairly noticeable increase to power on the bottom end. I think its only actually about 2hp difference though.

Yeah got the lid and s/a off….From a cold start in 50 degree weather the fan comes on fast before we even go ride sometimes. No coolant leaks. Is that normal? I'd say we are allright untill we see an engine light stay on or go to limpo mode. I really wish that 09 manual would come out…does anyone know how the fan works is it wired to the engine temp? Maybe a low engine temp?

Our YAM fan rarely came on maybe we are just not use to this but then again we had an oversize radiator in it. Wonder what the DS is going to do in 100 deg hard race days?

the pink wire doesnt raise the rev limiter

I took the lid off and removed the tip off the exhaust I thing i gained some power. There is alot of snow hear and all it does is spin the tires.

It definatly sounds better, Almost like a v-tec with a cold air intake and a stock exhaust. lol

While I was on my test ridie my gas light came on and then on my way back home I ran out. I was so excited to try it out that forgot to fill it up befoure i went out.

STILL NO COOLANT LEAKS SINCE I CHANGED THE HOSE CLAMPS.

When I cut the pink wire the main thing I noticed was better throttle response and maybe a little more on the bottom.

The power on this thing is deceiving. Raced my brother Outlaw 525s in the sand and I was right there with him. Basically came down to who got the better start.

TNT1 are you going to do anything to that clutch in the 09? I'm debating on throwing a Hinson basket on it just to be safe.

Not sure yet the 09 redesign should take care of the problem.....Got four hours on it so far and hardly any wear.....the way to tell is the play in the lever. Keep an eye on that and if you can't get the 1/2-5/8 play clutch is getting worn, see the owners maintenance guide. When I need new plates I will pull the basket and look for small cracks around the rivet holes, inspect the hub corners, and plates......Any clutch you run needs the proper care, maintenance, inspection, etc, and the life will be rider dependant. Run the BRP oil.

If I did decide to replace it would not just be the basket. I'd want the whole assy since these parts are made to work/wear together. If one metal is harder than the other, lets say the basket is machined aluminum w/ a hardened surface like Hinsons, and the inner hub is stock casted aluminum untreated, the hinson part can create hard points on the inner hub and cause it to fail, and the parts have to mated properly tolerance wise. The plates & everything have a close tolerance fit. From what I understand it was the inner hub that would fail, due to plates that have been redesign in 09, which caused the basket to fail.

So to answer the question I have faith in the BRP 09 redesign and I'm watching it with hopes to not get into an expensive after market purchase....I really believe the 09 stock clutch is a good one after reviewing the service bulletin and I have an xtra clutch assy on hand to see what BRP did first hand.

One of the owners of the dealer that did my service called me and apoligise for the service. when we were done talking he ended up giving me a gift certificate for some of the money I spent on my 10 hour service And assured me all of there technitions have over 20 yersa experance and when I bring it back I will not have these problems again.

So I went to the dealer and got my self alot of motor oil and oil filters with the gift certificate. lol They are going to call me when my recall parts come in.

If your gonna replace your clutch I would get a motoworks clutch. Its only 700-800 dollars, and a hinson is 1200. I would trust the motoworks, there are other factory teams running them, and they havent had any clutch troubles since they have produced these and put them in their bikes.
