Well... this will be a long dragged out project, but my son and I have started on it and we are going to post the progress. It may take a week or so before the next updates, but we will keep you guys posted.
This project will start with a 2000 90cc Monsoon kinda like some one else here on the forum.
It will end up being a 80/85cc hybrid. Have alot of work ahead of us, but he has enjoyed the project so far.
The photos will be grainy.... my digital camera quit working at Christmas so I am having to take pics with my camera phone.
The first ones that you will see are the ones were i was trying to get the existing motor to run. Had a bad crank seal so we snatched it out.
During the demo if any of you guys (and girls) see something that you might need, just ask and if I am not going to save it then you can have it.

recap.... ok, found out that we will need a longer steering stem... the stock Monsoon was only about 20 1/2" long... thanks to wvspeedfreak we will be getting a stock DRX stem that is about 23 1/2" long... and we had a deal on an RM80, but it fell through and we have talked about it and Josh wants to stick with a Honda because it looks like a Honda 400ex and he wants a cr80...
we will try to use some dirt bike frame parts also... and we will make some kind of dual a-arms to work... thinking of stock DRR, but not sure yet... time will tell

Lookin good. I sat here reading this thread laughing cause I did the exact same thing putting the Kasea fenders on Taylor's quad.
Taylor showed me that the tank was to far back and needed to be moved forward. Gotta love it when the kids get there hands dirty with ya! And sometimes even show the old man up. Good
luck on the build and just remember to have fun!

Thanks man... yeah it was kinda crazy how you had posted about the Monsoon and then a few days later I found one...
I guess the front bar that I had to cut out and going to relocate is one of them cross bars that you were talking about.
Its fun, and gives us something to do during the down time. We have a long way to go, but we are not in a rush. Can't wait to see yours progess.

not to be ignorant but this kid has ridden a 6volt powerwheels at 9mo. old a fullsize power wheels since 1 1/2 yrs old leaning off the side of it to push the pedal. He is very smart and listens to everything i tell him to do when it comes to this stuff. I have ridden this 4 wheeler with him dozens of times since we got it and he knows everything to do. Im not comfortable letting him ride this himself and do plan on getting him something smaller just for him now that i have found out how powerful this is. This is actually going to be great for my wife to learn on. Never the less if i did not get him something smaller I know he would ride this himself by the end of summer. By the way, being that this is our first gass powered bike, the chincy helmet is getting replaced with a full face helmet, goggles ect. ect. on friday thanks to $200 on ebay. That all being said I am only being a proud dad, who cares about the saftey of his son and would not let him ride this without being sure he would be safe. So that all said can anyone let me know where to get parts for these or what parts from other quads will fit? I have a fear that if it does break Im gonna be SOL on parts.

on the front end, get a set of stock drr duals. the bottoms will bolt right on then you will have to make mounts for the tops. i done the same thing on a xtreme frame. then used 400ex rotors and brake calipers. had to do a little fabbing to make it all work but it is on the ground and rolling. i was going to build a big cvt stroker for it but am now going to put in a kx80 motor in it. i will find some of my pics of the front and post for you.

by the way most this was built with parts i had laying around, some were bought.
a-arms--------drr
spindles--------apex, drum brake spindles
hub and caliper---------400ex with bearings from the apex drum brake and fabbed soacer and caliper mount
calipers----------400ex
front shocks------honda 300ex, 13" long
front bumper--------400ex, mounts welded on by me
the frame is from a china quad, plastic is xtreme tantrum. i had to do like you and cut off all the old plastic mounts and weld on my own for it to fit. i also extended the swing arm 3" myself but i will have to build a new one for the kx motor. havent worked on it in a couple of months but will be getting back on it soon. i just built this as a project and pit quad. my son has been off minis for a while and now races a honda 400ex/yamaha yz426 hybrid that i also built.
