Why is it a 525 if the ktm motor is a 510cc?

most engines are not what the model is called... they round them up..

i think the 450 is really449 also

Yea, I could see if it was an odd cc like 449 and they called it a 500 but to go from 510 which is a round even number to 525 doesnt make much sence to me.

I think the motor has always been a 510. The used to call it a 520 then they made some changes and called it a 525 and now in the new KTM XC dirt bikes they call it a 530 because the made some cylinder head changes. I think the 520,525,530 is more of a series designation then a representation of CC size.

530 is more than just a 525 with a different cylinder head, its a completely different motor all together.

I am pretty sure the bottom end of a 525 and a 530 are the same. The 505 is a completely different motor based off of the 450 sx motor. Might be wrong I guess but I read that in few mags. Let me now if you find out for sure.

Well, what cc was the old 500 outlaw? And was that a Polaris motor or a Fuji?

Every company out there has these differences, not just Polaris, or KTM.
