LT230 not starting, but starts with a jump

My '86 LT230 is driving me insane...It won't start with a kick (usually takes a few) but when i jumpstart it it starts and runs fine. I've rebuilt the carb, got a new coil (after I broke mine from removing it) , rejetted, replaced throttle and clutch cables, replaced plug, etc. Is there a starter I don't know about? It has been getting a spark from what Ive seen.

Any ideas? Im desperate and have had to miss a couple good trips because of this, it sucks.

low compression?

The compression seemed low after i hooked the carb back up...but after a few kicks the compression was back to normal, which is regularly pretty high
