how much top speed do u think i would lose if i put 18's on instead of 20's. my quad came wit 22 but i have 20s on right now. it didnt seem to lose to much top speed goin down to 20's. and do u think it would have betta acceleration. i basically ride tight trails so i dont really need too much top speed. plus a 250ex doesnt have and good speed to begin with so i dont care about top speed to much.

i would say gear higher but 250ex's you can't change it. i don't really know how big of a difference it would make, i would like to know too. i'm gonna change my gearing when i get my smaller tires. gonna run 15 or 16 : 36.

On my EX and other quads, it seems that if you go down two inches, you loose 3 or 4 mph. But I'm not sure about your 250.

I had 18's on my 250ex i lost alot of speed but gained alot of power.

yea...you will get good acceleration wit the 18s since they will spin around more than 20's. you will loose alittle of the top speed but you ride tight trails so i guess you dont top out alot...but if you think about it...you lose grond clearance with 18s and you said you ride tight trails...if there is rocks and logs and stuff..stay wit 20's.18 are usually mx tires. its what you want lol.

Why would you want to run 18's on the trails. The !8's tires are made of a softer compouned that coun't take the abuse of the woods. Plus you lose gound cleance

well for one i basically got them for free on a set of beadlocks and the trails that i ride are smooth and not many things to hit. i also ride a track that is soft pack and sand so i figure they will help there too

Ok I didn't know you want to use them for MX. If you can get them cheap I would pick them up too.

you going from a 22" tire to a 18"
that is a massive difference. yes you will gain accerlation but you will also be shifting more frequently, and will probly top out around 40 mph. i put 20" holeshots on my 300ex (had 22" stock)
and i constintly found my self trying to upshift from 5th to a gear i didnt have, and this is just riding around on the trails. it went back to normal when i went up a front tooth to a 14t.
just get 20", trust me

for one i am goin from 20's to 18's. another is that i already bought them so it doesnt make a difference, and finally i dont think i will shifting more than i do now. i am runnin bald tires in the snow. i have to shift pretty fast. but anyways i dont care about top speed. the trails i ride are wicked tight.

As you can see in the pics the 18's is alot smaller than the stock fronts. On a stock 400ex with stock tires, the front and rears dont look that much diffrent.

I just measured the two tires, the MX holes were 17in tall, and the stocks were 19ins.
